Not even 1 month with the car, already wrecked

sorry about your accident.
I was going to say be careful as bad things usually happen in 3s but it has been over a month...was there a 3rd bad event?
since this accident was not your fault, have you thought about going after diminished value since your car value will be diminished when you get it back? It should drive like new but carfax.

I would go a different route
With 28k in work it would go on-sale the day I got it back. Even the best body shops can not return these cars to factory tolerances as there are too many parts. Sorry for your misfortune but this may turn into a great opportunity for something new.

Haha this is great! You bought and modded another vehicle while waiting for your primary one? proper driver - not wanting to miss a day I feel you! 335i good choice - hope you get the 911 soon.
Update: STILL in the shop. They said they had to finish another 991 with a major rear end collision on the chassis bench first before they could use it to finish the repairs on my car. And then it still has to go to the dealer for misc. stuff. I bet another month at least. So I had the car for ONE month, then it went to the body shop and has been in there for TWO months now. Crazy.
In the meantime, I've been modding my 335i daily to the point where it feels almost as fast as the Carrera did when it was stock and is finally where I want it in terms of being fun to drive. I now have a charge pipe, larger FMIC, short shifter, intake, and running an MHD stage 2 tune (usually on the e30 map). It feels as fast as my old 2012 Mustang GT from years ago.
I felt bad for the Porsche last night and ordered some 2m fabrication cat bypass pipes and will be installing those and my Soul black slash cut tips once I get the car back. But man, it sucks not having it. Pulled up next to a beautiful blue 992 GT3 last sunday in Chico and wish I wasn't in a boring silver BMW sedan.

Hey Bud Taylor - curious - is this fact? Experience? Or common knowledge?
I always heard that they bring them back to factory tolerances often - even a Porsche professional driver could not tell the difference? Thoughts?

I don't buy that. The damage appears mostly cosmetic.

Yeah there is more going on under the skin, but the frame itself isn't damaged. The only reason it needs to go on a chassis bench is so they can weld new radiator supports to the front tub. I'm confident it will be repaired to a really high standard

I have had a successful DV claim satisfied. The insurance companies usually start with “oh we don’t ever pay DV”. Then they usually low ball you. My claim was much lower, about $27000 value and I asked for $6000. Finally settled $5050. No attorneys. There are all kinds of articles on the internet, just google diminished value. Your car probably would come in at around $25000 or more for DV. Good luck and don’t give in. Most consumers don’t even know about DV and that is what the insurance companies rely on. They learn about it when they try to trade their car in. I have some experience with this, I’m a retired car dealer of over 42 years.

Insurance companies know this. it's obvious. no need for lawyers and "DV specialist" until/unless push comes to shove (which seldom happens). just do a little research and stick to your guns (exactly like scr1244 says)

Make sure they find everything! There was a recent post here about a minor rear end bump that turned into a $30,000 + claim, because the repair shop that the insurance Company wanted to use was not a Porsche certified repair shop and they were just going to slap a new bumper cover on the car ... when an actuality there was frame damage that one had to know what they were looking for to find

Well the car is still not done and no signs of it being finished soon. I am going to pay the shop a visit today to see it in person and put a little pressure on them if they haven't made any real progress and I want to look at the chassis bench that supposedly has a badly damaged Turbo on it that they have to repair before mine.
I also got the registration renewal notice for my old Challenger Redeye I traded in, which normally is a non event except for the hilarious fact that the registration fee is exactly $797

Im sorry to hear this is still going. From a legal standpoint, whats a reasonable amount of time before the insurance will need to step in and pay-off the car and get it off your hands instead? (is that an actual option?) 18months? 3 years?
