Originally I ran ME20 front and MC72+ rear. (Supply issues)

I couldn’t believe the difference when ME20 all round.

I ran at least 6 full sets steeet/Track driving.

Now that I track more and drive a lot harder, and the car is far more modded, I run N35S. Yes, even on the street.

The ME20 are on all the time. N35S, aren’t as good on the very first application from stone cold. They are still fine. But as soon as the slightest bit of warmth, they out perform everything. The N35S are a little harsher on the rotors, but well worth it for heavy tracking.

ME20 really suit everyone from track beginner through to someone who tracks once a month in the advanced group.

Really its not until you start to burn through them, and it takes a lot of very fast hard punishment to wear them prematurely, that you’ll need more.

Centric Posi-Quiets are a great option for the street, but I wouldn't use them as a track pad. Definitely less dust than stock pads. Good initial bite at any temperature, but don't think they will stand up to track duty unless it's your first track weekend

I wanted to use Ferodo DS3.12 again for my AP kit but there wasn't any stock at the time, so opted for DS1.11. Pretty good pad, no issues with fade, modulation/feel is good, but I'm still working on release. They're noisier on the street vs DS3.12, but I swap to DS2500 during longer gaps between track events. DS2500 is great for the street; the only experience with them on track is with my S4. They didn't work well with that application, stopping a 4000lb car even with Brembo GT 380mm kit is really demanding, so it started to fade mid-session. I ran DS3.12 on the fronts of the base 911 brakes with OE rears; still a good set up for someone learning the car but with PSM on, the rear pads get worn really quick due to PTV. PSM Sport mode seemed to fix the issue, and I'm not ballsy enough to go PSM off.

I have a new set of Endless MX20 front/rear that I was going to use for the base brakes, but a sale on the AP kit came up from Essex which was too good to pass up. I really wanted to try them out and will order them for the AP kit next time. I should list them in marketplace soon...

I had Pagid RSL29 on front of stock GTS brakes and a brand new fresh set OEM on rear. The rear were on bare metal in 3 x 20min sessions. That’s when i learnt you have to turn traction control off. I went half off at first, and i couldn't believe how much better it was. Then i finally went full off and it was like, HELLO Porsche. It is pure.

So I run full off everywhere now . The car actually feels broken when I forget to turn it off after refuelling.

Original Pads wore all four corners same time.
Second set RSL29 killed rears same day.
Half off, stopped using rear.

Full off and i use 6 sets of front pads an rears are still fine.
Even replaced front rotors and rear rotors are still fine.

So full off, stops chomping rears.

Stops tearing beads of Cup2 as well. 🤣

Loving the Cup2-R’s at present.

In regards to traction control, what do you guys mean by half off? Like Sport+ mode?

In my .1 I think I can only have the PSM on, or if I hold the button down, off. Maybe this a .2 thing?

That works for me. My car is a daily driver with an occasional canyon carving party....

Half off is done by pressing the PSM button for 1-2 seconds. It then goes into PSM "Sport" mode. If you press the same button for 4-5 seconds, it then goes into "Off" mode. But some brake management is still active.
That's the way in a 991.2

For .2, push the traction control button to enable PSM Sport mode, or hold it down for 2sec to turn traction control off. With PSM fully enabled, PTV uses the rear brakes to help rotate the car but then eats up the pads at the same time. I remember going taking the car to the track for the first time and came away with very little rear pad. After switching to PSM Sport next time, rear pad wear was much much better.

I call PSM Sport = Half off. See below.

Yes - Correct. Since getting rid of the E-diff and replacing eith a full mechanical one, it has really narrowed the cars opportunities for interference.

Just to update, indeed PSM works different in .2 than in .1's. For .1's the closest thing to "half off" is Sport+. Otherwise its hold PSM down and it goes full off.

^^ This is critical but often overlooked data. Brake pads work best within a certain heat range and tires generally determine how much grip, which plays a major role in how much heat you get. Pad recommendations for a Cup car on R-comp tires will be very different than a street car on 200 treadwear tires.

Personal experience over 10 years with a 2.5L BSX Boxster on R-comps and street tires at the pointy end of the time sheet in BSX class. 10 seconds slower than the GT3RS running R7s:

Pagid Black/yellow/orange- All performed as advertised with Yellow lasting the longest. Fairly expensive and significant squeal on the street when cold. We did have one event where the yellows had pad transfer causing unbearable rotor judder. This was after an all black lap that ended the session early and I probably did not get them cooled down enough before cold pit. Likely operator error but both pads and rotors went promptly in the trash.

Raybestos ST-43- Simply amazing track pads that felt great, never overheated, and lasted 20 track days with moderate rotor wear. My favorite track pad by far with a very high heat range but squealed like a school bus on the street when cold. I used these both street and track but honestly probably should have swapped them out for the street. So... much... black... dust.

Porterfield R4S- Maybe the best match for my current R/T Cayman on 100-200tw tires. Good heat management and longevity, easy on the rotors while quiet as a mouse on the street. They are not lasting as long as the Raybestos ST-43 but a good tradeoff for dual sport street/track driving on 200tw tires with moderate grip. I am on my 2nd set and so far, so good.

Great stack rank!. Two questions. 1) I was surprised when BR Racing told me OEM pads will last longer at the track than any of those aftermarket pads. Has that been your experience (all else being equal in terms of PSM mode and tires)? Or do your aftermarket pads last at least as long as the OEMs?

2) where would you put the DS2500 in your stack rank? In between the MX72+ and ME20s?

Context: 991.2 GTS stock, went to the metal on my rear OEMs pad yesterday after starting the day at ~7mm so it's time for a change. Learned the same PSM off lesson but not early enough Getting Girodiscs + TBD pad.

thanks!
Paul
