Looking to buy a (going to buy) 991 C2S, Have a question
Hey.
In the process of scheduling a PPI for a '12 C2S I've found. From what I see, it has the options I'm looking for and an exterior color I like. Mileage is just over 12k.
With the '12 model being the first year of the 991, what known issues are there that I should be aware of? Is there any vast difference or improvements between the first year model and the '15/'16 models? I don't believe there are any, or much, visual differences, but Porsche is known for making running changes/improvements.
The second rat gets the cheese.... This being the first year model is my main concern.

I have a 2012.5 991.1CS2, and I was doing the same research before I bought it. Apparently its pretty solid. No major problems to worry about.
The 2015-2016 interiors have a better looking screens and the daytime running lights look cooler but otherwise there isnt much of a difference I can think...

Like you said, 991s are pretty solid cars. if its a manual, get over rev report. Regardless of miles or condition, protect it with a Fidelity (or similar) warranty.
PCM ( the "screen" mentioned above) is different in Model year 17+ cars and not in 15-16 as stated. Its easier to get CarPlay on 17+ cars
The daytime running lights are actually the optional PDLS+ (not to be confused with PDLS) which can also be had on 15-16 cars as well as the 991.2 cars.
good luck

Thanks for the info. I missed on a '15 C2S today on BaT. It has the daytime running lights and some option for the interior body of the lights to be blacked out. It was a nice car with a CPO though sometime '23. The only thing that kept me from bidding higher was the color. It's black but my 946 is black too. Would rather have a different color, if possible.

No major differences and some of the early issues like Change Over Valves (COV's) were most likely addressed by the service campaigns when the car was under warranty. They are just as reliable as the later cars, if the PPI is good - GO for it!
Also - the motor and PDK were not all new - they were updated versions from 997.2

Door panels delaminate
Early has the slower touchscreen computer than .2 but nothing you can do
NA is the big reason so good luck. It really is a good car.

I think by 'early' OP means 2012-2013 vs later 991.1's
Few links on the 2012's:

Give the tail lights a good yank. Both mine fell out on a track day. They were replaced under CPO. There's a small plastic lug on the tail light body that breaks, and allows the whole unit to fall out. Newer tail light assemblies have been modified so this doesn't happen. Other than that, mine has been rock solid and more fun than should be legally allowed. Well, some of it isn't legally allowed, I guess!

The delamination is only on cars without full leather. The leather door cards hold together nicely, but even this can be repaired aftermarket, but def a pain.
OH! if you buy a car that has ever been in a colder climate state try to get a bore scope to check for bore scoring on the cylinder walls. This will def cost a pretty penny labor wise, but better than finding out you have bore scoring on your motor.
This is probably the only big expensive failure other than the PDK dying.

Changeover valves. I’m having that issue now. Make sure that your heater is working.

Burning Brakes
I have a 2012.5, June 2012 delivery and experienced only four problems in 99,500 or so miles - Vario Cam sensors crapped out at about 89,000 miles and, a rear caliper was warped or misshapen such that the pads were not making complete contact with the rotor. Porsche replaced rotor and calipers. the spoiler deployment failed - mostly likely because the spring retainer is plastic and cracked. My dealer replaced the entire unit after the warranty expired at no cost to me and I didn't have to bitch, scream or complain...they just did it. The engine cover release cable also slipped out of its keeper - Porsche replaced with an updated keeper that has a guard to prevent the cable from slipping out. it is important to inspect at oil changes to make sure cable is retained.
Replaced front brakes at 85,000.
I believe the vario cam sensor to be wear items Porsche failed to include in routine maintenance. otherwise, the car has been trouble free.

rnl can you please expand on the the engine cover release cable - do you have a part number? or perhaps a picture?
