Default differences between 2012 and 2013-2015 991

Are there any differences between the 2012 and 2013-2015 991.1?
I didn't think there were any differences (except for perhaps options that were dropped or added) but I saw some floor mats on Suncoast and they say 2013-2019 instead of 2012-2019 (or maybe 2012-2015 since 991.2 started in 2016 and differences are to be expected then).
I don't particularly care about these floor mats, in fact I don't even have a 991 yet and won't until I sell my Ferrari 360.
But it did make me wonder if there was anything different and perhaps undesirable about the 2012 first model year 991.

I can't name all the differences, but in a 2012 there is no rev matching with sport plus. I think (but not 100%) the wheels were different in 2012 - there are some really ugly sport design wheels that I've only seen on 2012. I'd been interested to hear others' comments.

Something about the pcm is different...either no hard drive or smaller for jukebox. Mechanically / interior / exterior it is otherwise the same. To avoid confusion with the 2012 997 I just check the “2013” box when selecting parts for my 2012 1/2.

I believe the floor mats are listed that way so as to avoid people incorrectly ordering them for their 2012 997. The 991 was also made as a 2012 model year, commonly referred to as 2012.5.

As always with Porsche, the evolution of the 911 is ongoing, so there are differences between the 2012 and 2013MY's. Pop over and pick up a copy of our very comprehensive digital 991 (covering both gen1 & gen2) guide.....
Definitive Porsche 991 series 911 guide Definitive Porsche 991 series 911 guide
for the full information but here are a couple of key pointers...

For November 12+ the PCM unit was upgraded with new features - this introduced the useful 40Gb Jukebox feature and also DAB radio in Europe. The Bluetooth function was also upgraded to allow "Secure Simple Pairing" also allowing SMS texts and email (sometimes!) to display on the PCM. There was also the new (optional) web streaming feature with online weather, POI and search online and this upgrade also allows the retro fitting of online services which can also include real time traffic information. The Bose upgrade was also modified at that time.
From the 13MY AWD manual cars also offered automatic rev matching via the optional Sports Chrono (14MY-ish+ for 2wd cars). There are other changes, but hopefully the above helps -

In the 2012.5, the last cars built by the stand along Porsche company, there is a temperature sensor (a button) on the panel below and to the right of the steering wheel.

Thanks for the feedback everyone and thanks for the clarification on model year start of 991.2.

I just came back from a 2012 Carrera S test drive. Build date of 11/2011. I did see something that looked like a circular shaped sensor on the lower dash to the right of the steering wheel.
As far as PCM entertainment goes, the only thing I want is reliable Bluetooth. Don't really care about storing local music or radio. But it sounds like first gen Bluetooth might not be that great.

"The Definitive Guide to Porsche 991" looks like a great reference.

As far as those floor mats go I suspect the reason for starting at 2013 was as JW911 suggested - to prevent 2012 997 owners from buying them.

I just bought your 991 guide. As soon as I saw the mixed material diagrams on page 18 of the Kindle preview, I knew this was a reference book I would like.

I have a 2012.5 and the Bluetooth works absolutely perfectly with my iPhone XS. It’s the most reliable Bluetooth connection I have ever use in an automobile. And my car doesn’t have the 40GB jukebox so I believe it is the older PCM.

Cheers,
NF.

I have a MY13 with a production month of october 2012. Does this mean I have the 40gb jukebox?

Just push "SOURCE" on your PCM and if you see "Jukebox" as a source, you have it.

Bluetooth worked just fine on the 2012.5 991S that I had.
