Default Question about 3rd radiator for 991.1 C2S

Recently I have been doing more canyon runs here in SOCAL in 85-95 degree days at high rpms for 30-60 mins pretty much nonstop. My oil temps hit upwards of 270 with the uphill high rev runs and relatively extreme heat up in those mountains. My engine water temps seem ok around 210-220.

My question is, does the 3rd center radiator work to cool the oil temps? Or would I need something like a larger oil pan for more oil capacity or some sort of larger oil cooler?

Thanks!

Yes you should be able to lower your temps by at least 15 degrees. I have a .2 but had a similar problem, which the radiator fixed. You could also add the RR Racing larger oil pan but radiator would be the first step IMO.

Ahhh nice, you prob have a lot more heat with turbos as well. Def need that 3rd radiator and will also look great

I installed the third radiator in my .2 C4S myself. There are videos out on the web on installation. There's one in particular where the installation is on a 991.1.

It's worthwhile watching if you contemplate doing the work yourself.

3rd radiator should help. I added it for the heat here in Phoenix.

Remember, your water temp gauge will read 194 and stay there due to the system design.

270 seems very high for road use, even for 90 degree days. That's higher than track speeds at 90 degrees and 90% humidity... Sure something else isn't wrong?

No nothing else is wrong, the acceleration and hill climbing and RPM's I am hitting for the amount of time 30-45 mins sustained at over 4500 RPM just generate a lot of heat. Outside of these conditions the oil temps hover closer to 200. I have hit closer to 290 on HARD track days in 95+ degree heat in 20 min sessions. I have heard of some cars approaching 300 degrees, so I KNOW these engines get hot under hard use.

Default It would gnaw at me....

Once at the track, my 991.1 S engine oil gauge indicated 270 degrees,, didn't like the experience***When I see 270 coming up on the heat gauge, that's it, time to exit and cool down, Based on Wujohn's experience with the 3rd radiator with his car running cooler, I was inspired to order the 3rd Radiator kit from Suncoast Porsche, < $700....my local shop will install it for 3 hours labor.

***My former 1980 SC ai/oil cooled mostly track car, had an IROC front splitter with a center oil cooler radiator. On the hottest days, July at the track, 210 decrees was about as hot as it got. Same was true with my 993, which had two oil coolers....and now I drive a somewhat modern, water cooled, 991.1 Carrera S and it seems to want to run warmer than my old air/oil cooled Porsche cars...tough for me to come to grips with, the third radiator shroud help me deal with this dilemma, perceived or otherwise.
