How many miles is too many?

Personally, for mid $60's I would consider a nice 997 with much lower miles and fully documented maintenance history. Mileage is of course not everything, but it is something.

With newer modern engines, I truly believe that there are less mechanical issues and more electrical/sensor issues. I think we've gotten to the point where most manufacturers can make a pretty solid mechanical engine. It's all the darn sensors and sensors for sensors that at times interrupt each other and then throw codes left and right. Especially with PDK, if one single solenoid is bad on the PDK, Porsche wants to replace the trans rather than fix/replace anything. It's like they think a $15k trans is a throwaway item. If you are worried about an engine blowing up, it probably won't happen. You should be more worried with electrical gremlins.
My '13 has 70k, only 5k under my ownership, and nothing but one variocam solenoid that I fixed myself for $130. Other than that, mechanically, solid. Electronically and fit-n-finish, another story. I have the middle light failure, delaminating door panels, baby sensitive buttons that can't be pressed or pulled too hard or will break. As I've said, a 911 is the only car I would allow such compromises, and sad we have to have compromises for a $100K+ vehicle.

I'd rather have a car with 50k on the clock with maintinence history, vs a car with 15k on the clock. Especially one creeping up on 10 years old. The worst thing for a car to do is sit.
I bought my 2017 GTS with 52k on the odometer back in January (now has 57k on it). Full service history, single owner, and CPO (fortunately). Car drives perfect, no issues, was well taken care of. I have no regrets on purchasing a "high mile" GTS. (especially for the price) These cars are great, they're not a Ferrari or McLaren. Yearly services don't cost $20k, it's a sports car, its meant to be driven.
Find the one you love and have fun!

Mileage and condition are independent of one another. Plenty of low mileage cars that haven't been maintained and not in great condition.
I'd take the advice from another member and get into a clean 997 with maintenance history for the same or less money, rather than a 991 if it doesn't have maintenance history or isn't in as good of condition. I'd also say that I'd feel more comfortable buying a higher mileage manual car than a higher mileage PDK car. This is from someone that's had a dual clutch failure in another car (Audi) at around 80k miles, even with frequent servicing on the DSG transmission.

lackluster maintenance records would scare me away much faster then higher mileage. folks who blow off maintenance are way more likely to hide an accident with off the books/unreported repairs and lots of other things i wouldn't like in a car i was purchasing. how a car is maintained tells you alot about the car and the owner imho. words like irresponsible and stupid come to mind when i think about owners who don't maintain their cars correctly. would pass on cars/people like this
would have no problem buying a 911 with 75k miles IF it had a great/spotless maintenance history (as long as the price was right/reflective of the higher miles). have not looked at the marketplace in a long time so have no idea if the mid $60's is good or not?......but that can easily be sorted out with a little research.
good luck

I’d contact him and find out. The mileage wouldn’t worry me. I’ve got 55K on mine and no major issues yet.

It looks like you are looking for a C4S. but if you compromise and get a C2, there are a lot better deals - a quick scan surfaced many 2015's with around 40K miles at mid $60's:

and so on.
It might be worth considering a slightly newer car with far fewer miles. A lot of us drive C2's year round - proper tires more than make up for all wheel drive (unless you plan to track the car, these cars work very well with all seasons (this may be heresy to some ) )

see what the owner tells you regarding maintenance and accidents. go with what he/she says while thinking about it. maybe you'll find out he has all the maintenance records and the car is pristine? or maybe he'll tell you the car was in an accident and split in half but repaired =). you don't have enough info to even consider this specific car right now imho
if you do decide to move forward/try to make a deal, pay for the carfax and have it inspected at that point. trust what they tell you for now/in the early stage....while you decide if you're comfy with the miles. verify before you decide to buy the car/finalize the deal
zero harm done in making a quick phone call.

As long as you have snow tires, should be no issue. Only issue would be with ground clearance of the front bumper. With the engine over the rear wheels and snow tires, there's solid traction.

Car is at 114k miles, bought Feb 7, 2011. And what I have replaced so far is:
Rear tail lights (plastic clasp broke)
Headliner (glue weakened)
Dashboard (leather shrunk from sun)
Side markers (water started to creep in)
Both horns (Florida drivers are horrible)
2 Transmissions (both under warranty)
Not counting numerous tires and some brake pads.
Overall, it has been a solid car since 43k miles when the trannies got replaced. Most of the items have been in the last few years
