Notchy 1st and 2nd gear , Clutch engagement
I 've had my '18 911T Manual for 3 months and 2000 fun miles , getting settled in so to speak .. I bought this Used / CPO'd with 24K miles . Super clean and well maintained
Noticed a couple quirks Im curious if anyone can comment on:
- My Transmission gear engagement in 1st and 2nd gears is kind of "Nothcy" not usually silky smooth smooth . Seems more prevalent when cold , but wondering if this is normal? 3rd - 7th don't experience this.
- My clutch engagement is not linear , no slippage , but engages crisply in the last 1/2 of pedal travel - tough to articulate .Anyone else with a 991.2 have input?
I just drove a friends new Cayman GT4 and his 6 speed manual had no notch gear engagement nor a non linear clutch engagement .
Thanks in advance !!!

Everything you described sounds normal.
It gets better with more muscle memory. But, will never be as good as the 6-speed Cayman.
When was your car's last brake fluid flush? Since the brake fluid and clutch fluid are a shared system, your pedal feel and engagement point may improve with this every 2-year maintenance procedure.
Congrats on the new 911.

I second the above. I was going back and forth between a used 991 or a new 718 GTS and the MT in the latter is much smoother (but that didn’t stop me from buying a 991).

@LexVan So you’re saying that when you flush the brake fluid you’re actually also simultaneously flushing the clutch fluid? I guess that explains why there’s no scheduled maintenance just for clutch fluid.

Sounds normal. The manual in these cars is not as good as the manual in the mid-engine cars.
Another thread is diving into this rathole as well, specific to problems with launching the car at higher rpms. It just doesn't do it very well.

I owned a 981 CS and went to a 991.1 C2S and noticed the shifter right away, it was more vague and not as precise as the cayman. Once I upgraded to the Numeric Racing shifter and cables along with the function first Orange trans mount, the shifting has improved to the point where I feel it can rival my Cayman's stock shifter setup

2nd gear cold up shift
First shift from 1st to 2nd when car is cold, I double clutch and trans sidles right into 2nd gear. After the 1st shift, the transmission is happy.

Same here on a 991.1. During the first few minutes the shifter is notchy. When warm is smooth.
As for the engagement, I still congratulate myself when I can do a 1/2/3 engagement that doesn’t involve that small amount of jumpiness. The travel is long but the engagement seems to happen in a very narrow window.
