.2 Carrera T or .1 GTS?

Burning Brakes
Only 624 manual T's in the US so they are pretty rare.

I’m sure you aren’t alone in this thinking. Would not at all be surprised if 5-10 years from now the .1 sell for more than the .2.

Can’t go wrong with either. Test drove a base 991.2 and it was all the power I’ll ever need, loved the pops and crackles from the exhaust and the turbo whistle. I built my dream T many times on the configurator and I would’ve been happy with one.
But when I was presented with the opportunity to buy a 991.1 GTS, I made the decision within hours. It felt more special, the wide hips, the black CL wheels and accents, the GTS interior pack and the glorious noise. I don’t mind the PDK, been driving manuals since 2006 and my other car is MT.
I do think that the PCM and multi function steering wheel are better on the .2 but those are minor nuances.
tough choice but follow your gut.
good luck.

lol essentially .1 owners will always choose .1 and .2 owners will choose .2. There you go, summarized the thread.
I have the T, loving it every time I drive it. It has more power out of the box than you'll need. If you track and need a "specialized tool" then get a gt3 or gt4. But get whatever you feel comfortable driving and live with.

I bought a new 991.2 GTS manual RWD. Tuned it, exhaust, suspension, shifter. Basically all you can do to it. While being faster than the 991.1 the driving dynamics are completely different. It is laggy (not horrible for a turbo engine but it obviously compared to a NA engine). It basically makes a ton of power down low so you don't have to "rev it out". Ultimately it wasn't for me so I now have a 991.1 targa gts and couldn't be happier. Drive them both. For me it's 991.1 all the way.

I had a similar choice when I bought last year. In the end the more driver focused Carrera T won me over with it's newer tech, lighter weight and being a lower numbers car means it will likely hold value better.
Now that I've had it almost a year and 'made it my own' its exactly where I wanted it to be. With a simple tune its almost as fast as a GTS while still having the allure of a T.
My 2c is to go with a T if you can find one for non-silly money

@flsupraguy I would kill for a Targa 991.1 GTS! You're very lucky!

I went from a T to a 50th anniversary, which is essentially a 991.1 GTS. Really the only objective advice I can give is to drive both if you have a chance. Everyone else has summarized the differences (here and in numerous other threads) between the .1 and the .2 fairly well based on my own experience. But reading everyone's views and trying to be analytical about it is the wrong approach IMO. They are both fantastic Porsches, gems of the 991 era, and so going with your gut and the size of the smile on your face when you drive/look at them is the way to decide.

The .1 GTS will offer the more pleasurable, and engaging driving experience IMO. This is coming from a 991.2 TTS owner, so count my "bias" aside.

For me, the 3.0L turbo in the 991.2 T makes this the no-brainer pick. I personally wouldn't even consider a 991.1 base, S, or GTS, but I'm a bit of a power junky.
Thought the 3.0L base engine is no slouch stock, a tune and/or powerkit upgrade on the T will make it a power and torque monster rivaling 997 Turbo generation power delivery. Combine that with the nice trim and lighter weight of the T and you have a winner.
There is literally nothing I'd personally prefer on a 991.1 GTS vs. a properly equipped and tuned 991.2 T.
I realize many really love the previous gen NA engine vs. the new gen turbos. But I live at altitude, love turbocharged engines, and cant abide having a newer 911 that would be left in the dust by my 20 year old 996 Turbo.

I love both. My good friend has a .1 GTS coupe and I have my T and we have traded rides many times over the last 3 years. T has torque + RAS, GTS has exhaust note and a more old school on-cam/off-cam feel.
For me, the T is the better choice - the torque difference is just too much fun. My friend agrees, and missed out on the T. He's in the market for a 991.2 Cab.
cheers!
