Removing wheel weight tape residue.
I wanted to show you how I fairly easily removed sick tape residue from my rims Last year I tried to remove it with standard Goo Gone, It did not work.
The first picture is what I had left over from last year. The black tape residue is very thick and sticky.
So this time I bought some automotive Goo Gone gel. I sprayed each area on four wheels and let it sit for 10 minutes. I did each area in three stages. First I scraped the thick black residue off with the plastic blade. I then took the residual goo gone and spread back over what I just scraped. It does not all come off at once. Then I moved to the next wheel and so on for all four wheels. Then I came back to the first wheel and repeated the process. It becomes easier Each time. I also used a wooden chopstick and wooden Ticonderoga pencil to get into the corners in small areas where the Plastiic blade would not fit. I did 3 total scrapings on each area. It came off nicely. No rim scratches. I only had to spray Goo Gone once and
continued to reuse the residual Goo Gone on the wheel by just spreading it with my finger back over the area. Here is the end result.
It took about 30 min for all 4 wheels. Obviously it’s much much easier to do it with the wheels off. Last year I tried to do it with the wheels on and it was far too difficult.
Now I’m going to wax the wheels and get my snows off and mount the summers on Thursday.

The great idea. Can I get the ceramic coating at AutoZone. I need to do it this week. Is it easy to Apply like wax?
thanks.

Yes... local auto parts house will have some that's good enough for wheels. Must be clean clean clean.
I would youtube it and stay away from the body paint till you understand the process and feel more comfortable. You can get haze in the paint and have to have it professionally corrected. But for the wheel drums just follow the directions - cannot hurt much visually in there and brake dust will mostly rinse away with water.

This is the stuff to use, and wear gloves, don't use a lot of it. I put a little on the tape, then put some on a cloth and put the cloth on top of the tape, after 2-3min, I scrub the tape away.
There is some new wheel tape that is like a sticker, it's blue. On that, I use a plastic razor bade to lift an edge, then use needle nose pliers to pull up the whole thing as a piece.

The 3M Adhesive Cleaner takes it it off almost instantaneously, I have not tried the Good Off Pro Strength remover yet, but it smells similarly to 3M so I would assume it would also work well
