Has anyone seen this before?
It has been a couple of months since I had a chance to take the car out. I was cleaning it up after I got home and I noticed this crack on the rear bumper. I have no idea how it could have happened.
If something hit me (or if I hit something) I would expect to see some other transfer around the crack, but there's nothing.
I back my car into a weird space in my garage to keep it out of the way so the kids can't hit it. I get it within an inch or so of the wall, but even if I tapped the wall it wouldn't have hit here...higher up on the bumper sits a couple inches farther out than down here at the reflector.
Any ideas what could have caused this, and more importantly, is there anything I can do to fix it?
TIA!

Are you the first owner of the car ? Maybe it was resprayed in the past ?

I know there was some repair work done to the front bumper before I bought the car, but I'm unaware of anything on the rear. I've had the car 2 years next week (and I still smile every time I see it in my garage). It's due for an oil change in the next couple weeks so I'll have my indy look at it.
Bummer that a respray is the only way to correct it, but that's what I expected to hear. Of course this would happen within 1,000 miles of when I had the whole thing paint corrected and coated.

Yeah you'll have to respray it. Make sure to use a reputable body shop that knows how to match correctly the colour.

OP the only repair unfortunately is to have it re-sprayed.

At least it's just a bumper, which is prone to accidental damage just by design (especially with it needing to come off completely so often).

looks like external trauma to me. Something scraped from deep to superficial (left to right) (or vice versa). Luckily doesn't appear to have dented the bumper. Quality respray will make it look like new.

Someone probably gently bumped your car when parked. Just don't look at it and you will be fine. I know where all my imperfections are, I choose to "overlook" them. Helps me sleep at night.

I agree with the above. Honestly it’s not too noticeable and yes I know you will always know it’s there. For me it wouldn’t be worth the reward considering the cost to repair it properly and even having a chance of it not matching 100%. Imagine how upsetting that would be.

So maybe I use this as the excuse to finally buy the front aerokit spoiler and put that on? I mean they're already going to have to mix the paint, right?

I would recommend getting it fixed and not just leaving it. The paint looks like it has more flaking to do and as you wash it, will just end up getting bigger and things get caught on the paint edges.
I realize it won't rust, but it's gonna start looking worse with time.

Yeah - there's no question I'm going to get it fixed. Just curious if anyone had seen anything like it before. Sounds like there was previous damage that I didn't know about. Oh well...I still would have bought the car. I've had it for 2 years before this became visible. While I'm at it I'll also get the painted washer caps since they originally came on the car but were replaced with the chrome ones when the front bumper was repaired.
Thanks for the help, guys!
