The app is now native in IOS. Looks pretty good too. Only issue is trying to capture video as you need to have it connected via cable. Hoping the wireless CarPlay will fix that.

Just checked, works fine with wired CarPlay, but not through the wireless dongle.

Interesting app, it fired right up when I plugged it in. I also noted that the app requested that the phone be connected to the in-car Wi-Fi directly… That’s probably why it does not work with the dongle as the wireless CarPlay would be connected via Wi-Fi already.

I was pretty unhappy with sound quality when I tested wireless carplay compared to usb cable in a loaner Macan. There was also a delay when switching songs.

I read somewhere that it should be cd quality but I thought the quality was a bit like bluetooth to be honest.

Word. Not a deal breaker but it makes sense. Would have been pretty awesome though.

Can anyone here confirm or deny a sound quality degradation issue?

It does seem like Wired CarPlay offers superior sound quality to Bluetooth.

If/when we go Wireless CarPlay do we lose ANY sound quality? That would suck.

I've noticed a solid difference on wired vs wireless.... not a big surprise, but meh I was actually hoping I wouldn't notice :P

I have the Gen 1 - do they have a website where I can get the latest update?

Does Wireless Car Play only work over Wi-Fi or is there a bluetooth option? If only Wi-Fi, then I have to stick to wired as I pre-paid for in-car Wi-Fi.

As I understand it, there's no Bluetooth option to use Car Play. I believe Bluetooth is used initially to establish a Wi-Fi connection (exchange Wi-Fi password, etc), but once set up Car Play uses Wi-Fi only and Bluetooth drops out of the picture. Wi-Fi is used because Bluetooth can't support the bandwidth.

The adapter that was recommended to me above is Bluetooth. I recently purchased one, and it works good. Just plug it into the USB in the console and it’s good-to-go. I plugged a short charger cord to the end of the adapter so I can still charge my phone if I ever need to.
