It's not a joke. Porsche's engine lid release design is, however.

Joke or not, good information to have in mind given their propensity for failure.

A quick google search brought this up:

try this:

The emergency release cable is under the two black covers above the passenger side tailight. Lift your spoiler, remove the covers and you will see the cable. Try grabbing the cable with some needle nose pliers and pull it towards the outside of the car. Hopefully this works.

After trying this, the latch would still not release for me so the dealer replaced the entire latch, but they add to remove back bumper to get to the faulty latch.

you may require the removal of the engine cover.
the cable is barely retained on the original latch configuration; its replacement includes a guard.

If you have an active spoiler it's relatively easy if you have a duck or aero static spoiler like me, let me know. I had this happen and the process to open it is a bit more sketchy.

I have an active spoiler and have spent an hour and 45 minutes digging in there with a coat hanger to no avail.

Porsche's design with this thing is stupid.

It's MUCH more straight forward with an active spoiler.

Well, finally got that issue fixed... and re-engineered Porsche's stupid design... So unless the actuator dies, this problem is solved forever

I used this guys three videos to understand how to open the hood...and learn how the entire "system" worked. The videos do not explain the latter, but you can see all the relevant parts in his videos if you look quick enough and hit pause.
Then, I removed the actuator housing, which is under other crap, and tightened everything up (I think slack developed over time and created some of the problem). I then added a zip tie around the actuator to ensure that the cable did not slip out... Ever again.

And then I put a bracket on the actual latch mechanism to prevent the cable from falling out of the latch mechanism. This has always been the primary weakness in the design. This last solution was borrowed from this thread: https://www.renntech.org/topic/52176...lid-wont-open/ (photos below - I did something very similar, but did not take photos unfortunately).

I believe that my problem is permanently fixed.
