Default Help Engine lid doesn't open

I must of knocked the cable and I cannot open engine lid. When I lift button in car it makes sound by cable is not engaged.

Anyone know where the manual emergency cable is located.

The 997 had a cable in the tail light but I know 991 doesn't have one in tail light.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure it's not opening? Press the cabin button, and have a helper lift the engine lid.

This happened to me.

Try the emergency release in the frunk first. It fires both front and rear latches. If this does not work
try this:

The emergency release cable is under the two black covers above the passenger side tailight. Lift your spoiler, remove the covers and you will see the cable. Try grabbing the cable with some needle nose pliers and pull it towards the outside of the car. Hopefully this works.

After trying this, the latch would still not release for me so the dealer replaced the entire latch, but they add to remove back bumper to get to the faulty latch.

Thanks for replies. What complicates this is I have the aero cup spoiler and cannot access the cable your are referring to.

Any other ideas. I also heard that there might be a cable in the wheel well?

I was going to say have one person press down on the engine lid while someone else pulls the latch, that might do it if it's simply stretch in the cable.

Haha - yeah, love the dramatic reveal...

"Hey," says I to an admirer of the car, "you wanna see the engine?"

"Yes," they reply breathily, saliva forming at the corners of their mouth...

"OK," I say, reaching for the button... "here goes.." *click*...

"What the...?"

"Not to worry, you can see part of the tailpipe if you look through this wheel!"

Figured it out. From underneath the car I was able to see the latch cable and used a hanger to hook on the cable and slight tug opened the hood.
Thanks for everyone's help!

Here are some pictures showing how to locate the engine lid release cable.

Cable is under the plastic cover that has the Mobil1 logo. Engine lid won't open, so how do you get to it?

Lift the spoiler (if batt is not dead), reach in and lift up the plastic cover, and then grab the cable end with some long pliers.

I just had the same problem but I think something else might be broken. I was able to fish out the emergency release cable, but it doesn't seem to do anything. If I pull any harder on it I feel like I might break something, how hard are you suppose to pull on it? The trunk servo is working, I can hear it when I press the intoior release button. Could the whole mechanism ( servo plus release cable) be faulty? If so, how do you get the hood to release?

There are only two bolts that afix the Aero Spoiler and one connector. Easier to remove than the stock spoiler by a wide margin. Suggest that you remove and examine if the cable is in the proper position and clipped in to the cable holders.

The picture you posted makes no sense- think about it. That cable release is underneath the engine cover, not the spoiler. If the servo that opens the engine cover fails, you can't get to the that little cable because it's UNDER the engine cover.

After dealing with a broken servo and having to put a boroscope and a wire hanger under the engine cover to get it open (3 hours of my life I'll never get back), I rerouted that cable through a hole into the right taillight area. I put a zip tie around it just so it wouldn't slip back through. Now you can pop the spoiler, remove two screws and remove the taillight, and then just pull the cable to pop the engine cover. I think this is how it's supposed to be but I have yet to see a 991 with a properly routed cable.

If the emergency or manual cable is pulled and it does not release the engine lid then the cable probably became detached at latch. Now you have to figure out how to get to the latch. Therefore pulling on the cable will do nothing. Unfortunately I have the same dilemma so I as taking the ca in.
