Default Lava Orange Crush: Share Your Love for Lava Here

I originally posted this to share my new (to me) Lava 911 with the group, but there appears to be some pent-up Lava demand, so please share what you have!

I recently bought a 2017 991.2 Carrera S in Lava Orange. Equipped with enthusiast driving in mind, it has a manual trans, Sport PASM, and PSE with SharkWerks exhaust (but no sport chrono).

I had some fun putting together a write-up/review on my website. Check out my article here if you're interested in reading more (also here: https://www.revogarage.com/porsche-9...rera-s-review/). There is some other Porsche content on the site you all may enjoy as well.

Below I've posted a video with some drone footage, and a few pics taken by my partner. I've been banging around the 996 Turbo forum for a few years now, and looking forward to learning about and discussing the 991.2 here as well!

I love Lava Orange. Also, great little video. The Montana setting is perfect. Enjoy that 911!

First time I've had a vibrant color in quite a while. My 996 is Seal Grey, and while I think that color really suits the car well, I'm loving seeing something bright in the garage.

Montana is indeed a great place for a sports car, but you've got to be prepared to either drive it in the winter/adverse weather, or be comfortable with a looooong season in the garage. Nice thing though is that there very little salt used on the roads, and even then it's not that hateful mag chloride mixture they douse the roads with elsewhere.

Which reminds me, in the video and most of the photos the car has it's snow set up on (19 inch Porsche wheels with Conti WinterContact TS810 in slightly narrower widths front and rear). I also put just a little spacer (5 mm) on the rear to flush things up, I think the front could use a little spacer as well. There is one pic in the article with the summer setup, all black 20 inch Carrera S wheels with Pirelli PZeros. The black wheels are another departure for me, but they really work on this car (IMHO), especially with the black roof and trim.

Not that I’m biased or anything, but Lava Orange is the best possible color for a 991.2.

Great color, great car. I truly wonder how many Lava cars are out there. Since it was a premium color and all.

May as well pile on and add a pic of my Lava GTS. Enjoy the car!

Love the color - looks great! During my search that was definitely on the list but alas, no manual Lava options showed up at that time.

Also enjoyed your pics of Montana and recalling some great fishing trips out there years back. Enjoy in good health. 👍

Sometimes I wish I had held out for a Lava Orange 911. I had an orange Schwinn Stingray bicycle when I was kid and I always liked that color on sports cars.

Looking good! And thanks for your unbiased and objective input. It has about the same level of journalistic integrity as my "review" of my own car!

Interesting question. I'm thinking that lava is uncommon, but not rare. Purely anecdotally I see it (in pictures, never seen another in real life) more often on GT cars than Carrera's . I suspect it's a pretty unusual box to tick on a Carrera.

My understanding is that it was the launch color for one of the GT3 model variants - I want to say that it was for the 991.1 GT3, but I'm not 100% sure, For the Carrera/S/GTS it was a regular option, albeit a $3k or thereabouts option. I know of 4 other lava orange 911s in the New England/NY area, with 1 of them being a 991.1 GT3, one a 991.1 Carrera 4S, one a 992 Carrera S, and then mine - a 991.2 Carrera S. Mine, however, is the only 7MT of the bunch.

Lava is a fantastic color and no matter what color a 991 is - sport mirrors are a must have IMO.

I'm loving the lava orange too... a lot. I've had my 991.1 for 6 months and I have yet to see another lava orange 911 on the road...
