I’ll answer it this way. I had a 996 C2 10 years ago. Loved it but got scared off by the IMS thing. Then I went through 2 Ferraris. I’ve driven my current GTS more in 4 months than I drove my F430 the whole time I had it.

Makes some sense but the reason I'm asking is that it's a NEW feeling for me. I've had other Porsches but this is my first 911 and the feeling is completely different, one that I don't want to go away!

Does it wear off? Or do you still crave driving yours even after years of ownership?

cayman since 2016..STILL need to drive it as often as I can

991 since June 20, and HAVE to drive it at least once a day

Heck I do all I can to drive wife's car as often as possible too

it doesn't really end , only gets slightly better

I'm a newbie myself, only two months in, and a handful of times driving (all within 100 total miles and on back roads) and hasn't worn off.
I think if owning a 911 has been a dream, and you have a 911 that doesn't have problems, the feeling will always be there.
If you own it as just "another car" that you like, then it will wear off, because then you'll just move on to another at some point.

i'm kinda new to P car ownership but can confirm it doesn't wear off at the 8 month mark. such wonderful cars.....i can see it taking a VERY long time to even begin wearing off. still enjoying the extended honeymoon and love driving it every chance i get.

some nights, i just go to the garage and turn the lights on to see her sleeping =)

I did the same thing the first month when we got our 911. We didn't have it registered yet, so could not drive it. So every few nights (as in 5 times a week) I would just go in and sit in the car and look around to make sure everything was still good...

Isn't there a thread on this already?

I have to say, I've never looked for excuses to just go for a drive like I have with this car. Even the 981 Boxster GTS I traded in for it... sure, on a nice sunny day I'd be thinking of getting out with the top down but never just... to go for a drive. That's unique to this car, and you'd have to pry it from my "cold, dead hands" from this point forward.

I would upgrade it though. It probably won't be my forever car... I'm pretty sure I'll have a GT3T someday.

I know what you mean. I sold my 997 in 2016 and then missed it literally every day until I picked up the 991 in December of 2020. It's not that I didn't have a great car (2013 M3) in the interim, but somehow the itch wasn't scratched until I had a 911 again. I don't really know what it is, but it's probably a combination of the car's heritage and just how well it is screwed together. It feels special to drive and puts a smile on my face each time that I do. I think I'm always going to have a 911 in my life from now on.

Going on 5 years and ~16K miles and it still feels special. Also sharing time with 3 other cars and, with Covid, there's very little driving going on in this house. Hell, my 10yr old bimmer felt great driving after 5 weeks...hydraulic steering, analog gauges and an NA engine never get old.

Not wearing off for me and I'm only eight months in!

I have lots of mods planned in the next couple of weeks. Excitement will be off the charts every time I get in the car.

First, no knot in my stomach every time I start it waiting for a $5000 dash light to come on. The Porsche is just so smooth yet precise. Also, you get more than one speedy car. In normal mode you get a civil speedy car. In sport or (gasp) sport+ you get a holy s*#t fast speedy car. Maybe it’s sitting in a high quality cockpit where you don’t have to look past blistering leather and melting control buttons or waiting for the top to leak. When l would get back from driving the Ferrari I’d be relieved nothing happened. In the Porsche, I’m truly reluctant to put her in the garage.
