On long road trips, especially after some miles in the rain, I have used a self-serve bay. First I use a very quick and light soap spray (yes, knowing it will compromise my wax or sealant a bit), and then a thorough rinse, staying way back from the car. It does not really come out clean, but it removes most of the crud.

I don't have much crud to begin with with full car PPF and two layers of Ceramic Pro. A little spray and soft wipe gets it done before the next blast of traffic crud.

I personally wouldn’t do it. Between the harsh chemicals and the recycled water I think long term auto car wash use (even touchless) compromises the paint. I’d rather drive a dirty car until I can detail it properly myself. These days with the rinseless washes and good microfiber it’s not that hard. If the 911 isn’t too dirty I can be done in under half an hour. Plus it gives me time to admire the great lines.

Cheers,
NF.

If my car was on fire AND I was near a Touchless Carwash, I would:

1) Wait about 30 minutes
2) Call State Farm
3) Call fire department
4) Run over to carwash to use the restroom (at my age, and the amount of coffee I drink, that's how I roll)

Ha! Good luck finding a restroom at a DIY carwash. You might just add to their wash water supply. And since everyone else will be watching your car burn, no-one will notice.

To make sure the insurance company won't want to repair it 😉

After what happened to the front plastic in a 991 - never an automatic again. Guide rail cracked the wheel well/under liner where it transitions 90 degrees to horizontal. In front of the front wheels.

I've been going to touchless for as long as I can remember. Never had any PPF blow off and never had a finish marred or otherwise compromised. Maybe I'm just lucky but I doubt it. I hand wash all spring-fall but touchless once/week in the winter. Its got to be better than leaving dirt, grime and salt etc on the car . To each his own.

Where most people really go wrong with touchless washes (and I cringe every time I see it!), is they dry the car after. These touchless washes DO NOT remove dirt and grime the same way a handwash does. So when you dry a car after this type of wash, you are grinding (aka swirling) the dirt into your paint.
Agreed 100%. I cringe when I see the new Bentley guy regularly doing that. Look at corners of your windshield after touchless.....thats what on the car still.
