Default Power From Mirror?

Hi everyone. I've purchased a Uniden R7 detector and would like to install it where shown on the picture. I'd like to get the power from the mirror if possible. I'm not great at thread searching but does anyone have experience at tapping into 12 volts in this area?
Thanks
Chris

Why not a Blend Mount?

Can you use your visor with the detector in that location?

I don’t know what that is. What is a Blend Mount? Thread somewhere?

https://blendmount.com/

Mounts the detector below the mirror.

I use a Blendmount to hold my Valentine detector. SOLID. Would get one for my E63 if they made one. The design of the E63 mirror doesn't allow for the mount to attach to the mirror unfortunately.

The earlier link for instruction is how I got power for my radar detector.

Blendmount is great. No concerns with it ever coming off. If my radar detector fell off the windshield while driving, I'd probably be a bit surprised and depending on if you're mid corner, that could end poorly.

Only downside with the Blendmount is that it does block some visibility.

I just recently purchased a Uniden R7 myself. After searching and reading through countless threads and watching videos about how to best install it, I settled on the Blendmount with the hardwire kit. Better than the mirror tap primarily because by going the hardwire route, the radar detector shuts off automatically when the car is turned off. You can do the mirror tap and set the R7 to automatically shut off after 30 minutes of inactivity. That just wasn’t for me. The only other thing that you would need other than the hardwire kit is a fuse tap available through Amazon. It’s about seven bucks. If you want the best install of the R7. Then go with the Blendmount and hardwire kit.

The mirror tap explained in the thread linked in post 2 also turns off the detector when you turn the car off. Works perfect.

Thank you for the note. I just purchased the mount and the wire harness (with the fuse) from Blendmount. Should be here next week.

Default Uniden R7 Installation Complete

I finished the install by ordering a mount and fused wire from Blendmount. Below are the results. Unit is solid unlike the suction cup install. I guided the wire out a groove in the front. Pulling down the light assembly was nerve wracking but the snaps finally unsnapped. They snapped back into place. The wire length was 15" - barely long enough. I went black to black and red to red/black. Maybe I should have gone to purple but I saw a video where it was done the way I did it. With the wires, there is no slack but the wire isn't tugging on the R7 either. I have better pictures but loaded this six pack to the forum to give you an idea. Thoughts? Technically, my first Porsche "modification."
