Default Gear just went to N on its own and lost power (PDK gearbox)

Hello all, I am a newbie to forums and owning a Carrera just thought I’d throw that out there 😆.

My C4s recently decided to loose power and switch to N which showed as a blank gear in the gear selector, so I hit the gas for some response and nothing. So I decided to put the car in neutral and then D (I was on the motorway so needed the power there was no where to safely stop), and then back to N and then back to D and then the car seemed to grab a gear and act normal.

I tend to use the gear shifters a lot (PDK) is it bad to use them all the time, like could that cause the transmission to slip? I heard that it’s okay to use them as that’s what they are there for, but also I worry about the risk of having to buy a new transmission.

Thank you, and hope to get some feedback as to whether this was a one off or a regular thing that can happen.

you probably accidently pulled on both paddle shifters together. that puts the car into neutral.

i use pdk manual shift 95 percent of my drive time. no issues what so ever.

all you need to do is shift up or down while moving to get back into gear.

if you are completely stopped, you need to press the brakes to engage back into gear.

cheers

Isn't it a great feeling when something really scary turns out to be a non-issue

Yes because I’m only a first time porsche guy I’m 29 and worked so hard for it so I would be gutted if something happened, but these things do and most likely will happen I just need to be ready for it 😆

It is - I always have my Auto/Stop/Start disabled and it somehow got pushed on one day long time ago as I was driving through the neighborhood. i was panicking because the car would stall every time I came to a stop at the Stop signs. DUH !!!

Lets us know when you hit the rev limiter by accident for the 1st time.

You would have thought the car just blew up.

If I understand correctly, You should NOT use the gear shifter in the console “a lot” as you stated. You can use the paddles on the steering wheel a lot without any issue and I hope this is what you meant.

Can you please explain why this would be. It does not sound credible to me. As far as I know there is no reason not to use the gear shifter from a technical standpoint. Sounds like you may have some factual information to convince me otherwise though so I would love to see that. Thanks in advance!

i use gear shifter on the console on 90 percent of my manual gear shifts. I only use paddle shifts when i'm at track. i'm in manual shift mode 95 percent of my drives. not sure where the above statement is coming from but my car drives absolutely fine

Quick Reply: Gear just went to N on its own and lost power (PDK gearbox)
