Default Windshield replaced today. Has this happend to anyone else?

So my windshield was replaced today and they did an excellent job. Ideal Auto Glass if anyone is in central FL and needs a new windshield. Anyway when they pulled off the factory windshield and seals the red pull-off tape was still attached. Has anyone else had this experience? The install tech pointed this out as he was prepping the new OEM windshield for installation and removing the same tape.

That is 3m VHB tape. Double sided tape. It is structural. That could have been catastrophic! Thank goodness you found out this way and not when you really needed the structural support of the windshield. You are a lucky guy today! That is the best way to accept this news.

It didn't leak so that was my concern but never anything further like something structural. I wonder how many others are out there like this.

Are you the first owner on your car? Any chance a windshield was replaced prior to your ownership without your knowledge? My guess is in the factory they wouldn't have the red tape still attached, ever, I'd think they would have double sided tape with both sides exposed and then apply it to the car as is, eliminating that risk. It seems more likely that at 2k miles even, car got a stone chip, you bought it after and someone when installing the windshield forgot to remove the red tape.

It was the original glass from the factory.

Ideal Auto Glass replaced the windshield on my Merc SUV, quick, professional and painless. Recommend as well.

You can get replacement glass the same as factory installed.

I doubt that this was factory glass. not saying it wasn't OEM Porsche, but not original for sure.

or, who knows.. probably a chance that it was missed, but seems highly unlikely

I have seen factory tours a production lines and seem to remember that the windshield had a bead of caulk applied to it prior to robot arm installing it.

Send these photos to Porsche. If this is OEM install error they might want to know.
