The sad reality of this is the culprit is likely a $50 solenoid accessible by dropping the tranny pan.

Porsche service departments are low skill in my opinion because they are either unwilling to do complex work, or aren’t allowed to. Same difference in my mind.

Indeed. Just like how my cross over valve (coolant shutoff/ heater) malfunctions and may lead to overheating the engine! Simply because of a tiny water pump leak. Fortunately and perhaps unfortunately, they won’t swap the motor.

@Guzzgreg I would work with dealer but if there is no subsidy, I would take it elsewhere to have the valve body and the electrical bits replaced or have a used PDK installed. Not sure how it would work out financially to put it up for sale but that is worth investigating.

sorry to hear this. you have every right to be very upset with porsche.

treating a transmission like an unrepairable black box is the real problem here. i agree with others that the mechanics of the transmission are probably fine.

Yeah that was one of the first things I looked at the service intervals and thought the same thing, seems quite a look time.

When you find out the status of your transmission, get the failure codes and give them to PV997 . He is also logging the codes and associated failures and could likely give you the failure mode/component and a repair prognosis. There are several modes of failure and a few theoretical field replaceable parts but getting the parts out of Porsche may be difficult. If the code is anything with the shift rod sensors, you're out of luck. Those are buried deep in the trans and will require a replacement.

Get the codes, give them to @PV997, then report back.

@Guzzgreg - If it makes you feel any better, my 991 is in for a PDK issue and I could potentially be looking at what would be my cars 3rd PDK.

Porsche needs to step up and extend the warranty on their PDK to 10yr/100K miles. Lexus and even BMW did this on specific engine components when I owned them (not the tranny) when it became clear there were potential issues. Bottom line is it really wouldn't cost Porsche a ton of money to do so, especially in comparison to the improved goodwill it would create for current and future owners. (But I'm not holding my breath- look at the price of used 911s now)
