Default 991.2 Tail Lights Removal Easy?

I only found one video online for 991.2 and it was not perfectly clear.

I wanted to install the darkened OEM rear tail lights. From what little I found, it appears there are just two screws for each light that are loosened, pull light out, and unhook connector. Is it that easy or does it require bumper removal? Thank you.

Raise your spoiler and you should have access to the fasteners on the shroud around the taillights. Remove the shroud and you should have access. I watched the tech at my dealer adjust my taillights after they reassembled my GTS after the water pump installation. I thought they'd have to remove the bumper, but he did not. My taillights were not snug against the center part of the bumper, and that gave him access.

Clarification: He had to remove the bumper for the water pump, but not for readjusting the taillights.

Removing the rear tail lights on 991.2 is same as 991.1 . you can raise your spoiler to take covers off to remove bolts. then you can take tail lights out and disconnect the harnesses.
I'm not DIY savvy but I was able to do it in 10 mins on each side.

Just took out both lights and the bumper off a couple nights back. Its super easy.
Raise the spoiler and the black plastic trim pieces underneath it on each side pop off... pull gently upwards and they will pop out of the rubber grommets that hold them down.
There are actually three torx screws holding each light in place. One is bigger, I forget the sizes but you'll need a set of torx sockets.
Remove all three screws and push the light down very slightly to clear the metal frame and it will slide right out.
The wiring plug needs a small flat screwdriver inserted into the clip to release it smoothly.

I believe it's just housing color differences between base red tail lights and GTS red top with darker lower area tail lights so you should be fine.

Just in case you weren't aware, you can order the tinted tail lights that are e-code spec, the indicators flash yellow, rather than red. This is way it is in Europe, which personally I prefer.

If you had the 991.1 they would fall out on their own...

Have you done this mod or is this just as an FYI? I have the darkened Euro-spec lights on order and am curious if there will be any coding required for this switch? (From what I’ve read there is a minor adaptation of the harness connector required.) If anyone is interested I’ll have a pair of darkened US-spec lights for sale in a few weeks when my order has arrived.

Please reach out to me once you are selling them, as I would be interested to try to work out a purchase. Thank you.

just search 991.2 GTS. All GTS comes with dark lower tail lights. You can even find it in exact body color you're looking for as well.

‘To confirm, you don’t need to open engine compartment? Simply raise the spoiler ? I am guessing there is a higher setting for the spoiler than just pressing the button, as it is not the high to access.

Also the black plastic trim pieces are below the spoiler, butting up against the lights? They seem really tight so I thought they were screwed in themselves but I guess not the case then.
