Hello All,
I've been reading and reading but I wanted to throw this out there. Looking at my first 911, and I wanted opinions on GTS models pre vs post turbo. I've been looking at a 2015 with pretty low miles down in Florida. Anyone feel like chiming in on the debate over turbo or not to turbo? I'm coming out of a Z06 with 508 rwhp so I understand the torque benefit.
Thanks!

I would drive both and then choose. The turbos don’t bother me.

The consensus is the .1 benefits are more character, more noise. Folks who fall more in line with "drive a slow car fast" will veer towards the .1, and the engine noise across the board is unquestionably better... but more from a volume perspective. The turbos do quell the volume but the .2 still sounds great... but if you're a huge fan of induction noise in the cabin the .1 will strongly appeal to you.

But not many will argue that the .1 cars can be "underwhelming" compared to other sports cars in the power department. The .2 100% solves this problem; it is a fantastically fast car in any rev range. Some will argue that it's "too fast" for the street, but I disagree- the power is accessible ALL THE TIME so even just putting around town stoplight to stoplight is a blast; you don't need to hit triple digit speeds to have fun in these cars. It also has better steering, an updated interior (the steering wheel makes a HUGE difference, to me at least), and better infotainment (CarPlay is standard in the .2). Personally, I like the aesthetic changes as well, particularly the decklid.

Apparently the prices for 991.1 GTS models are comparable to the .2... there does seem to be a lot more .2 GTS models available for whatever reason but for me personally a well-optioned S for $20k less made a lot more sense.

But ultimately, you HAVE to drive both.

You should drive both. I think you will lean towards one model more. If not don’t buy either. Our opinion is kind of irrelevant. This forum will likely have many that say go 991.1 GTS and many that will say 991.2 GTS. Your car, your money, your decision. Drive both and have fun.

I just bought a .2 GTS. Its a monster. With a flash its even nuttier. Buy a 991.1 GTS and keep it in a bubble or buy a .2 and punch way way above your weight.

My honest thoughts, when its revving I dont know its turbo. The exhaust is quieter, of course. But a .2 GTS is a 0-60 in 3.0, 1/4 in 11.3@125 in RWD form. Its just nuts.

Politics have a less sensitive reaction than NA vs Turbo variant discussions

Drive both. Decide which one made you smile the most and which one filled your emotional quote the highest. I am in camp NA.... Just went on a pretty intense drive with ~60 others and my NA cab had no problem keeping up with the turbo variants. This is on a twisty road. Pulled faster than a base 991.2 on a couple straights. All he needs is a tune and he'll be faster without question. 9/10 I recommend the NA cars. If it's a daily and only car then a 991.2 is probably a better fit. How much do you value the sound of a high revving, howling flat 6? That win goes to NA. In Florida, there isn't much in terms of fun mountain roads so you don't need the suspension witchcraft. it all depends on where you are in your car journey and what makes you "tick." No wrong answer.

As others have said, drive both. If threre is any question you might go the mod path, then .2 without a doubt. FAR more power potential per $ spent. The .2 GTS cars we've tuned here with a handful of mods are making turbo S power figures. Very impressive potential!

Thanks for the info, what kind of power are you seeing out of the carrera S cars?

You won’t be happy coming from a Z06 to a Carrera. The Carrera is the equivalent of a base Corvette Stingray/Grand Sport, you are used to major HP!

I would personally lean towards a Turbo/Turbo S unless you plan on taking you GTS to the track. I think you will be shocked coming from a Z06 how effortless these cars can accelerate and with AWD nothing launches like a Turbo/Turbo S. You can bump these cars up to 750 crank HP easily without touching the internals. Good luck!!

Search this forum: .1 or .2 - many threads on the topic but you really need to drive them to see which one you prefer (I own a .2 and I drove a .1, and added high flow cats).

Then I think the 991.2 would be a better fit for you.

The .2 is the more performant car. If performance matters most, buy a .2.

The .1 is still a great car, and as I'm sure you are aware there are plenty of reasons to buy an NA car. This is super similar to the 458 vs 488 debate.

Is there really a right answer? For an individual, maybe. By and large? Nah.

There are other factors, too, of course. Are there any particular options/colors/etc. that you really want that weren't offered on the .1? Do you care about where in the depreciation curve you're buying? And so on...

Our shop car is a C4S and this is our in-house dyno.

The dyno plots below show: 1. stock 2. with our ceramic coated headers and the first version of the COBB OTS Stage 1 map 3. the addition of an exhaust modification allowing for flow straight out of the stock cat bypassing the muffler. There is more torque and power to be had with the addition of sport cats and a Pro-Tune. A number of our customers have gone with an APR tune and also been very satisfied.

Medakiss, I know I'll loose a lot of the low end grunt but its a sacrifice I'm willing to make. Unfortunately I can't take the wife and daughter (7) anywhere together and she loves speed! She is very vocal about wanting to go out for rides. lol Worst case I keep the vette and add on a lower price 911 to the garage. I really don't want to sell it since its a Carbon edition, one of only 252 made.
