Default DSC : 991.2 Targa 4S, driver Experience Review

Hello everyone, I just wanted to post this to a wider community. This is not a technical review. There are people far more mechanically knowledgeable and plenty of content on this.

I am a spirited creative, so most of my content will be very experience driven. Hope you find value in it. @DSC Sport been amazing on my 997.2 and 991.2 and no I’ve not been paid to do or say this! Enjoy!

Love it on my Targa GTS. Not that is has anything to do with the DSC but the AWD on the car was outstanding this evening in heavy rain and lots of standing water in areas, which I did not see until the last second since it was dark and I was on unfamiliar roads.

I must agree with you both, on he heavy Targas the DSC helps keep the car level into turns and provides overall more stability than the stock controller. One of those must have mods for Targas.

Your review is cinematically beautifully done! I totally agree that sports car driving isn’t just all about specification numbers and lap times. The visceral aspect is equally important. Thank you for sharing.

Are you using the standard DSC 991 calibration file or the GT3 Tour file?

I was told the the GT3 tour file was meant for track use. Sure, you can use it but, the standard file seems to be optimized for road use. Maybe DSC Tom will chime in..

I have the GT3 file on my DSC and I do not track it, which I told Tom (tchan@dscsport.com) after he recommended it and he still said it would be perfect for the Targa.

thank for the info sir! will reach out to Tom to explore and learn more. I will say on this 4S targa the combination of: DSC, SOUL Sport Cats and the Pro-Tune are an amazing mod-strategy! Truly transforms the car to a complete animal. I’ve never been a GT3 kind of guy, but wanted close performance in a targa.

here is me and David my friend in his gorgeous Miami-Blue 991.2 GT3:

The plantedness (yes, I said it) of the 4GTS is very impressive. I’m often happy knowing another car could have gotten squirrelly.

Tom told me the GT3T was better on my car because I have springs. I was hoping for something more aggressive. Honestly though - for the street I don't see the [performance] need for coilers in 991 cars. I got springs purely for aesthetics and my 991 lowered with DSC is so comfortable! This of course is in comparison to my super stiff 987 on ohlins setup.

Have there been any warranty issues with Porsche that arose from DSC controllers? Has Porsche denied any warranty work because of this modification to how their suspension works after the DSC controller?

None publicly. I don't know of any.

I love the DSCsport controller on my cars. On the GT3, I'm running the touring file and it's fine on the street, at times I find I'm running with the sport program, just to make the chassis a bit more responsive on the street.

The great thing of the module is that it's easy to switch maps, just hook up a USB cable, connect a laptop and download the new maps. It's also easy to modify things and work up your own custom tuning. The amount of configuration can be overwhelming but the files TPC provides are great out of the box.
