I have had personal experience regarding auto thefts in South Florida from years ago, I can tell you that your location can affect auto thefts. It used to be stolen cars were stuffed in containers and surrounded with mattresses and all sorts of junk to thwart searches and loaded on container ships. For a while it was really wild.

Most of these cars ended in the Caribbean countries where they loved Toyota, particularly 4Runners and Land Cruisers, and Honda products.

High end cars stolen were commonly Mercedes of all types. They went everywhere.

Chop shops would take anything, again Toyota, Hondas and Chrysler products because you could steal one with a flat head screw driver, their ignition locks were made by Briggs and Stratton, pot metal.

Didn't come across too many Porches as stolen, it's a low volume production car and not much call for parts.

Deterrence has improved with chipped keys, standard alarm systems, and tracking devices becoming industry wide.

Currently, there have been criminals going after high-end Porsche models in Europe, organized crime with sophisticated methods. These high-end thefts have included devices to steal key fob signals so they could make their own keys.

Car jacking gives the criminal your keys right then and there. If you're jacked and there's a gun in your face, even if you have a gun, are you willing to risk your life to turn the tables? Unless you're trained in hand to hand defense tactics and disarming or deflecting an attack by a criminal, you may better off just surviving. If you feel it may end badly for you no matter what you do, then you fight for your life.

Practice situational awareness and take steps to minimize being a victim.

As to port security, many ports have installed scanning machines that can see inside containers without making entry.

I was just curious on what the car offered in terms of finding the vehicle. Not that I would want it back. My father's Mercedes has an app to track it and it works very well.

Let them have the car, that's what auto insurance is for. I'm not risking my life for a car which I know is fully insured and easily replaceable. You can't assume the other guy is rational and makes the right decision when you show him your firearm.

Then again, I also have a manual and dang it, if barely anyone knows how to drive one anymore! Best theft prevention device ever!

Just to add to the conversation, depending on your state laws you might want to consider carrying an expandable steel baton in your car. Or even a baseball bat. It just might get you out of a threatening situation without having to use lethal force. I have a concealed carry permit and hope to never use my firearm for many reasons. A can of bear spray in the car is another option......

IMO, the best option is not to live or work in a place where that sort of depraved BS happens, at least with some frequency. There are civilized parts of the US (and in other parts of the world).

Lol. I’m all for all kinds of cool toys, but if someone already has a gun drawn on you, while you’ve had hands on the steering wheel, a gun in the car will do jack **** except get you killed. Not saying having something in the car can’t be useful for other situations, but a car jacking is not one of them.

Although i agree that car is not worth your life or lives of your family, the other side of the coin is that because no one catches these people or has a way to stop them they are getting ballsier and escalate their crimes unchecked.

Car jacking with a firearm, at least where I live, is a first degree felony. These types of crimes usually get quick and serious attention from law enforcement and carry heavy sentencing up to but less than 30 years.

Retired ATF Agent and before that Police Officer in Miami. Been in two shootouts. If you think you are going to quick draw your handgun and take down a seasoned thug pointing a gun at your temple please think again. Hand over the keys and walk away. The dynamics of that encounter will be nothing like you imagined.
