Post Need your recommendation - Ceramic brake pads.

Hi,
I'm looking for ceramic brake pads for my 12 991.1 C2S. I've seen lot of 991 owners here recommended Centric semi-metallic pads, but I'm really sick of brake dust and thinking of changing to ceramic pads. What's your recommendation?

Most brake dust comes from the rotors so there is only so much you can do, and the Centric Posi-quiets are well known here for keeping the dust at a minimum.

What is a source for these pads? I searched for them but every site that comes up does not have them for a 991.

You can Google for them but I know Summit Racing has them: Centric Posiquiet: Front Part Number: 104.17410 and Rear Part Number: 104.14170. Verify the part#s for your model!

Try ECS tuning. They're quite inexpensive compared to OEM.

Do you use this pads yourself? If so, what do you think of them? If not, what are you using? I have a 13 C2S.

My favorite ceramic brake pads are the Akebonos that I just installed on my 2000 C4 Cab and have been on my 2008 BMW 335i for about 5 yrs and still have lots of meat on them (only drive the car (2-3k miles/yr).

Excellent stopping power (at least on my 335i), no dust and no noise/squealing.

Caveat: Stopping power on the 996 is execllent according to the dealer I took it to to check out my brakes after a complete brake job (Akebono pads, Brembo rotors and StopTech stainless steel brake lines all around) because they still felt "soft" to me b4 and after the brake job. Even changed the master cylinder (which wasn't really necessary) to see if it would make a difference. Nothing did.

Service Mgr said they found a few air pockets in the brake lines and bled them out and said that they were fine. Assume he knows what he's talking about but I still think the brakes feel "soft" and am considering installing more aggressive front pads to see if they make any diffrerence. If they do, I'll change the rear pads too.

Others here who use Akebonos have mentioned in other threads that they like them too and do not complain about the "soft" feel of the brakes as I do.

So, the "problem" may just be peculiar to my 996 and my sense of feel w/regard to the brakes as compared w/my 335i and other cars I have now and have driven in the past.

Personally no; however, many here have and have reported the results - you can search the forum if you want to verify. I actually bought a set but swapped to PCCBs before I could have them installed so I sold them to a forum member.

The Hawk ceramic pads series (in the yellow box) are very popular on the 997 and highly recommended. I have not used them on a 991 but they available and should be comparable. Compared to OE pads there is a huge reduction in brake dust with no noticeable difference in stopping performance. They will run about $200 per axle for the pads. Just make sure you bed them in properly after installation per the Hawk bedding instructions.

I definitely agree Akebonos ceramic r excellent, I had it on my 997 but they don't make for 991.
