My GTS 991.1 has been involved in an accident but the more I dove into all the reasons not to buy it was more resale concerns and emotion than it was practical.
My car has been perfect - no issues and for me was the best engine and what I wanted (gt3 variant with more day to day practicability). Don’t get me wrong I love the GT3 and would get one if it made sense but I got a great deal on mine and it checked all my boxes.
After I drive my car without any issues or concerns for the next year or so I can relay those real world experiences to someone on the fence of buying my car - an accident doesn’t mean it should be thrown away. Many great cars with low miles out there and worth buying! Especially a NA GTS!!

Never buy a wrecked car.
Ever. To me the .1 gts is a better car. If I wanted a turbo it would be the 997 or 992.

not even a fair question..
Test drove 991.2, base, T and GTS.. even the 991.2 GTS barely came close to the "feel", "sounds" and driving experience of the last NA GTS...
if HP numbers, red light drag races, 30-120 pulls, tunes, Dyno wars is your thing.. absolutely go for the 991.2S
GTS is a whole other beast.... and will disappoint in all of the above scenarios
I say this with confidence because I made the exact choice just a few weeks ago..
Also agree with the fact that you should SKIP the one with Carfax history
The above comment about GTS geared for "cruising" and NOT geared towards performance Made me smile.. I summarized that sentiment on line 3 of this post I feel
good luck

I own a 2015 GTS and love it ... and I think you should buy the 2017 991.2. You can’t go wrong either way, they are both great cars, however, Porsche did make the 991 better with the .2, and, buying the newest car you can afford is often wise - in my opinion.
As other have said, they are very different machines. In the end buy the one you love - the configuration, color, look, feel, sound. Get the one that makes you smile.

I voted for the 2015 GTS because, car for car, I'll take the 3.8 NA engine over the TT engine any day. But I agree with the others, the Carfax is a stain that cannot be removed, no matter what the damage. I agree with getting the 2017 S or find another 991.1 GTS to your liking.

I've been die hard NA my whole life but I'm coming around to these 3.0's. It's pretty amazing to strap a few pieces on a car and make crazy power. That might outweigh the allure of linear power and 300ft lbs of torque. Especially when you factor that when you're up it in 3.0 there is very similar throttle response to the previous NA engines. You only get lag low down. The old engines win for sound as the primary advantage.

I have not read all the replies. I think that if you drive both you would know for sure. Some love that NA needs to be revd high to have the torque that we want. Some love the 001.2 twin turbos and the torque at much lower rpms. It would be interesting to see performance numbers for the 2 you are considering. They might be similar but how you get there will be very different. Drive both to know for sure what you went and if you say that you don’t care then don’t buy either.

There’s always turbo lag
NA all the WAY!!!

NA > FI, IMHO. That said, your money your rules. Drive both and decide for yourself. Look into the Carfax report as you don't want the headaches/diminished value when it's time to sell...
Good luck and post pics when you buy...

I put catless pipes on my X51 PowerKit 3.0 C2S, and got 470 Hp on the dyno along with awesome sound that turns heads at Porsche events. Best sound for the money spent. Race cats are better that stock too.

The GTS is old and dated.

"Old and dated" does not necessarily equate to worthless. There are many "old and dated" things that are valuable, including the 991.1 GTS.
The 991.1 GTS is the naturally aspirated 911 Carrera with the most horsepower of any non-GTS 911 ever.
If you want a car with a turbocharged engine, you have tons of options, Porsche and otherwise. Porsche maintained the NA engine (non-GT cars) from 1964 until 2016. Sure, the 2017 S is a great car but all Carreras going forward will be turbocharged. The 991.1 GTS is the last of its kind. If you want an NA engine in a 911, you now have one option - a GT car. Not a bad option, but not necessarily what many are looking for in a car. Having both a 991.1 GTS cab and a 991.2 GT3 Touring, I can say with much behind-the-wheel experience that both cars are amazing for their own reasons, and that the GTS makes a lot more sense for the average driver who is looking more for a daily driver and less for a track weapon.

.2
Both awesome cars. I also went from a .1 to .2. I miss the sound a little, but that is easily remedied with exhaust/cats. Also the power potential in the .2 is wonderful as it's been said. So if power and punch are of interest, .2. Especially if you're a modder.
