I realize I may have a different type of relationship with (after 485 cars they know me well) dealers than most people, but I called the GM of Porsche of Warrington, told him what I wanted and within 24 hours sent me info on 3 Targa 4S's to see which one I wanted. I made my choice (a jet black met 2019 nicely optioned, it already is tuned and has a throttle controller more to come), and the car was in my garage in less than a week. You might want to try that with your local dealer. If they are not willing to do some work to help you perhaps my dealer would. Good luck the Targa is Porsche #45 for me Porsche #1 was a Targa too so kind of like a full circle for an old guy like me.

I just remembered a friend of mine that is a broker who can find you what you need, for a nominal fee of course: Ben Peacock (bpbrokering@gmail.com)- tell him Bob Z. referred you.

He was recently looking for a Speedster for me and he will negotiate with dealers on your behalf, just like you would at a dealer.

I am talking to the dealer in Richmond. This would only be my third Porsche so I am probably not as much of a VIP customer as you.

Friend within Porsche said no 911 was a beneficiary of the twin-turbo 3.0 quite like the Targa—and I would have to agree. While the 3.8 was up to the task of the Targa's heft, and the 3.4 felt to me fine in a base coupe 7MT, the moment you started adding weight (AWD and/or convertible top, etc), the 3.4's lack of torque down low really became apparent. Even a 370-hp 991.2 Targa feels quick to me, whether PDK or 7MT, and would be fine. S, X51, or GTS even better—but the turbo torque is an even bigger game-changer in the Targa.

As to issues, I have heard of none, though a friend with a 991.2 Targa parked outside year-round has seen the rubber around the bottom of the rear glass fail/curl up. The same car's top mechanism just a bit finicky of late, but nothing major if you know how to Fonzerelli it. Despite all this, he loves the car and may buy it out of the lease to keep long term. Can't blame him, as I still think the 991 Targa is among the best-looking 991s, and maybe the best modern reinterpretation of a classic Porsche model. Just masterful.

I’ve driven a base 991.2 and felt it was quite quick and know the 991.2 targas seem to shrug off the weight. While I am gravitating toward a 4S, I would be happy with either a 4 or GTS with the right accoutrements.

We keep our Boxster in our garage, so will mainly be stored inside when not in use.

You've got the right approach.

My friend has several proper/pure sports cars, and viewed the 991.2 Targa 4 PDK as a better Mercedes SL with 2+2 seating for his (young) family. 2-3 years later, it has exceeded all of his expectations, and I have to say it was wonderful down Hwy 1 on the way to a dinner south of Big Sur. Far better than any SL would have been, and good even in "911" terms. He's looked around at what to replace it with, and sees nothing. And the only issues (rear window rubber and fading calipers) appear to be the result of living outdoors 24/7.

Definitely can take on multiple personalities. I wish the suspension was a little tighter and lower. Tuned with headers and soul cats, even with a manual, it's very very quick now. Maintenance is more difficult, that big piece of glass doesn't move that far away from the engine bay. My wife has declared it her favorite for riding in.

A good dealer makes every customer feel like a VIP, because every customer is one.

REQUEST: Could current (2018-2019) Targa owner(s) do me a favor, I had a SAT antenna replaced a while ago under warranty, and I am wondering if they installed it backwards. I dropped it off this morning for some scheduled maintenance this morning, and walked the showroom (no Targa examples) just looking...I noticed that on EVERY model, the antenna was mounted opposite from mine. Yes, I understand it doesn't effect the functionality of the antenna, it is purely aesthetics, but it is just one of those things. If one or two of you could take a pic (to include the weatherstrip near the engine cover) it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance - Wes

A litte far away, but yours appears to be mounted exactly like mine...which is funny...like I said, EVERY other car had the antenna mounted the opposite direction (rounded part to the front of the vehicle).

I wonder if this is a Porsche wide issue. I had a satellite antenna failure and had to get it fixed fortunately under warranty. I have looked at a lot of 911s and a fair amount have signal reception issues like my Boxster did.

I guess this is just another thing that makes the Targa a little more unique.
