Default Targa Issues?

I am considering trading up from my 718 Boxster to a 2017 Targa 4S. I have searched but haven’t found any specific issues with 991 Targas but wanted to ask if there were any common issues to look out for. Everything about the car seems great, other than a slight thunk when the top lowers into the back. I’m not sure if that is normal or not and when closing the top, it seems to drop the last half inch into place unlike my 718’s top which seems a little more fluid. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t have a comparison to a Porsche Convertible, but I love mine! Its a 991.1 (2015 4S) and has been great and enjoyable for close to 30K miles. Two Minor issues fixed under warranty: steering wheel heat and sway bar bushing (they did both). You will love the Targa!

I think the thunk you hear are the top flaps of the targa bar flapping back into place.

Not a “Targa specific” issue.

He did not ask for Targa specific things. He said what should he watch out for with 991 Targas.

This is good feedback, yes I’m mainly concerned with the top but haven’t heard any complaints despite it being somewhat complex.

I think most Targas have full leather, which do not have the problem with door panels, just the pleather panels can have issues.

And you should search again since there was a Targa or Cab thread a day ago we were replying to: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1194...ga-or-cab.html. Read the threads that have "Targa" in the title line and you will find out all you need to know, but in summary, no issues and what you are referring to is normal and nothing to worry about.

Yes I saw that thread, but it really seemed to focus more on preference between the cab and the targa and not really issues with it. Both my wife and I have always wanted a Targa, we finally got to test drive a 991.2. It is a little sparse on options and if I buy it, will probably have the steering wheel switched to the heated multifunction one. We had it done on our 718 and really nice during cooler weather with the top down. We will definitely miss lava orange though.

I know a couple of people who own 991 Targas, and I don’t think either of them have had any issues. The top mechanism is complex, but it seems to be robust.

Too bad you can’t find a Targa in Lava Orange! That would be a beauty.

I'm guessing it's this?

Don't settle just because it's local
It's too easy to ship a car or fly and drive
Get the color and options you want
Sport+ is an option I would want with a PDK

More money, but fun color and so much more car...already at 77% of MSRP vs 80%

Good luck!

I've been very happy with my 2015 Targa 4S. This is coming from 2 prior 911 coupes as well as a Cayman and Boxster. The Targa is a special car to me.

Yes, it’s honestly the first 991 Targa I’ve driven due to scarcity. We are mulling it over. It is a fairly expensive purchase so we go back and forth on buying it or finding something closer to what we want. It’s a nice car overall.
