Very good guys here as well. They did my Vektor Header install. With that said, their maintenance prices aren't that different from the dealers which I found surprising given I do think the dealer rates for things like oil, etc. are a bit over the top. Or maybe we're all just cheap? I just don't get $490 for an oil change, even with pricier synthetic fluids that frankly are the norm now even in many non-performance cars.

Or unless it requires coding (or other things) that only a Porsche dealer can do.

Had to pay over $500 to get a new key for my new to me 2000 C4 Cab (which of course only came w/1) and only the dealer can code a new key. Had the dealer do other work as well since the car was already there: 1) finding/fixing a fault in the central locking system and re-coding the locking option and 2) refurbishing the top's hydraulics. Ended up paying the dealer about $2.5k for all of the work done.

FWIW, the cost of servicing/repairing my BMW & MB at my Indy seems a bit less than for my Porsche, so I guess there's just a service cost premium that comes w/owning a Porsche. Oh well . . .

that price is usury ... a) you don't likely need new air filter or spark plugs at 6K, mind you, I would do it myself due to the years... and b) but even if you did all that at a proper independent, you're looking at $2K max.. The spark plugs is the hardest one, as you have to remove a lot of exhaust components from what I am told, so about a 6 hour job .

If you lived near me, it would cost you $200 in parts and a six pack of beer while I showed you how to do it all yourself.

Seriously baffles me what dealers charge for these simple maintenance procedures.

All of these have DIY threads here on Rennlist. You could even purchase a reset tool (iCarSoft) for $150 and still just be out $350. Hell, you could even buy a quickjack "mini lift" for another 1,200 and still only cost you half of what the dealer is charging.

It's not rocket science. The only thing "dangerous" that's safety related in all of this that you could possibly screw up would be a brake fluid flush, but you would know right away if you allowed air into the system and would need to re-bleed them. Hell, my 15 year old daughter did the second half of my most recent plug and coil change after I demonstrated on the first half.

You should seriously consider trying it yourself. Some of us even ENJOY wrenching on our Porsches. There are weekends where I'm tempted to do maintenance early just to have an excuse to work on my car.

Similar to what others have said, I'm in the East Bay near Walnut Creek and would do it for you very reasonable cost, I don't drink so no beer needed I have PIWIS and can also do your PDK services if you wanted as well as bleeding coolant system, brake flushes etc.

Plugs are time and or miles. Time wise, I think it is replace every 4 years so that they do no seize. Just had mine done after 5 years and 23K miles.

Yes and pretty much yes, they aren't mutually exclusive. DIY or find a good indy. Folks who take their car to dealers for anything other than warranty work are wasting their money. I've yet to see an exception.

Quite true. Dealers are total ripoffs. However, there may be a few reasons why service at the dealer might be worthwhile. If one is going to trade in the car for another Porsche, most probably will get a better deal. I did when I traded in my Boxster after 4 years and just before doing the expensive 4th year service. I got above market value as well a good discount on my 911. Second is the possibility (perhaps remote) of an expensive 'goodwill' repair if the car is serviced at the dealer. Don't know about Porsche. In my Z4, steering rack failed just after warranty. BMW covered the part (3k) and I paid labor (1k). Maybe too much to ask of Porsche? I don't know.

Sounds high. I just got back from Porsche Marin for the annual service on my 2010 GT3, $670 including about $290 for the biennial brake fluid flush. Last year, the 40k service was $2700 including $1k for all new TPMS.

I just picked mine up for the recall on the heat shield and tank sensor campaign. All was done for free. I also did the recommended oil change for $320. I declined changing the pollen filter (change it myself) and did not do the brake flush. The SA said i could also have the plugs changed but did not see a reason to do this (2014 C4S with 18K miles).

LOL.....She's my youngest of three daughters. Other two are married. I raised them all to be self-sufficient independent women who can turn wrenches and fix things and not have to rely on someone else.

Oh, and they all can drive a stick shift too!

Porsche recommends a plug change every four years if you haven't done the miles, you are two years past. The reason they do this is the environment is pretty harsh, the plugs live close to the ground and can corrode. It's in your owners manual. FYI, they are not hard to do yourself if so inclined, only the plug closest to the driver is tricky on PASM cars, you will then need a wobble socket extension.

of course u are getting ripped off, that's why there are so many indys around. Indys love the dealers, without the stealers, they would be out of business lol. The 4k service should cost about half, 1500-1800. The 1400 service should cost about 500-600
