Default Which Would You Rather Have?

2017 Targa 4S with 7k miles or 2017 Turbo with 30k miles? Both will average around the $120k price tag. Assume the turbo has similar options as the Targa. I love both of the these cars but can only afford one and want to keep this car for a while. This will be my daily driver. Pro's and con's of each and which will hold its value more down the road? Yes, I am new to the Porsche family.... Thank you for your guidance and help.

Both have warranty? Turbo for me. I don’t care for canvas tops. It likely has depreciated more but that shouldn’t drive the decision making since you will be keeping it for a while.

Have you driven and experienced both? If not, you need to do that. It really does not make any difference what we think. The question is what do you want. If you have driven both (and the Targa top down with windows up and down as well as top closed) what do you think? For you to decide.

Do you want the top down driving experience? That answer is one of the main keys in your decision process for these 2 specific examples.

shammerman - yes, of course I have driven both of them. Like I said above, I love both and do understand this is my decision. I was just looking for any pros and cons for those who own each of the vehicles. Any maintenance issues with Targa retractable top? Or if you had a chance to do it over again. Those kinda things.....

Turbo unless you absolutely need the look of the Targa.

Is the Targe a manual trans?

With a proper tune, you can get the turbo pretty close to the Turbo.

What LexVan says. If it’s a manual, Targa. The problem with the big T Turbo is you need a LOT of road to really get on it. I looked hard at one (a 991.1) before getting my base 2017. They are soooo fast, but see the last Smoking Tire video, they are all “wrest you” fast. U less you love in the dessert (and how boring would all those straight line roads be?), where are you going to get to enjoy all of that? I do prefer the look of the rear haunches and really wanted that, but after some driving and soul searching wanted everyday fun. Haven’t looked back in 2.5 years and 27k miles.

Only thing I pine for is a manual. But I think a Spyder order is in my future...

LexVan, no sir, it is an auto. Probably want to stay with the auto anyways due to a bunch of downtown city driving....

Manual Targa was my choice. X51 upgrade.

I loved the classic look of the silver bar. And the rear glass.
And I like open tops. I'm open air 90% of the time when I drive. However yesterday was out driving when a storm was coming soon. Put the top up and was reminded how great it is with the top up. It's a coupe, with a big back window, and coupe quiet....

Turbo I do dig the air intakes. Turbo Targa would be pretty cool.

Both are fast. One is faster

Really though it's two questions:
do you want open air?
Do you want to row the gears?

Neither one will hold value tremendously. Made too many. The money spent is flushed in my head. So ask yourself the two questions above. No right or wrong. But should not settle.

Edit, sorry just saw your last post. No manual. Then it's just open air vs not. Go a little faster or get a little more sun...

I have a turbo Targa. Considered a turbo Turbo. No regrets.

I have a .2 GT3 and a .2 Targa GTS.

If you live in a city, and have to mostly drive on city streets / roads, you will be happier with the PDK (sorry, guys) and most likely the Targa. The Targa setup is ingenious. The glass rear hatch really deadens the sound with the top up. With the top down, it gives you about 90% of of the Cab experience with 50% less noise. I love the damn thing and, with Soul Sport Cats, it sounds pretty good too.

The GT3 is fun for hooligan driving but you really need either (1) a lot of open road and/or (2) mountain turns/curves to wring out all the fun. Both of those are hard to get in the city.

Can't go wrong either way though....

Oh, and as LexVan pointed out, with some intercoolers and larger turbos, you can get the Targa's to near Turbo S power with an APR tune. Just in case you didn't know that.

;-)

As someone else mentioned above, I use my targa with the top down ~90% of the time. If that number were ~65% or less, I'd go Turbo for sure. I just love the widebody.

To me, your climate and preference for top down driving is the key.

On my 5th TT car so I am definitely biased but the Porsche TT cars are just awesome.
