Default Wanna roll?

I was out on a leisurely drive, I mean, picking up groceries the other day and a Golf GTI pulls up next to me appearing to be showing off his ride with a raspy exhaust. This thing sounded like a rapid fire 22 caliber--think compressor stall on a jet engine. Needless to say, it was very obnoxious. I let him pass and he pulls off to the far left lane then slows down. As I proceeded to pass him in the far right lane, he accelerates so I let him get further ahead of me. After coming to a stop at a signal light, he rolls down his window and says, "you wanna roll?", at which time I almost bursted into uncontrollable laughter. Good thing I wasn't sipping on water or coffee. I politely said no thanks and went on my way.
This pandemic is definitely driving people even crazier. I've had several guys wanting to race but this one has potential of winning the Darwin Award. Street racing is no bueno in my book. Feel free to share your "wanna roll?" stories and be safe out there!

One time, I was on vacation with the wife, kids, MIL, and family dog. This hot blonde rolls up to me in a bright red Ferrari, and asked me to roll. I declined since we were in the Wagon Queen Family Truckster.

Not as good as ‘wanna roll’ 😂 but I’ve noticed a massive uptick on people who get infuriated when you use turn signals to change lanes in order to pass... the worst are the ones who have no business in speeding up - they want to try the hardest to outpace / cut you off 😝

Americans are terrible drivers, especially here in California. Turn signal usage is merely a nice to have. Stopping and pulling over on the side of the road while previously driving at pace, with no indicator whatsoever, this one is always clever. People clogging up all lanes regardless of their speed relative to the limit is so common there is no point in even imagining that people would adhere to leaving the left lanes open for passing traffic. I love this country as much as anyone, but Americans are self centered A** HOLES with regards to driving.

WA is the worst place I’ve driven, and I would’ve SWORN Columbus, GA (which is leaps and bounds worse than Atlanta) to be the worst before that. Seattle drivers are so selfish it’s almost unbelievable. It was nice for a few weeks, but they’re back.

I agree. I moved out here from the east coast where if you weren't moving fast enough in the left lane you'd get high beams flashed at you and sometimes get honked at. Out here it's the leisure lane.

I've found that I can sometimes encourage people to speed up just by using my turn signal to make them _think_ I'm going to pass them - works directly on the lizard brain and makes their right foot extend a little. Doesn't work on Subarus, though.

It used to happen to me all the time in my C7 Z06. Kids with fart can cars just wanted to hear the mighty beast roar! I don't think they really thought they had a chance.

Default turn signal hypnosis

I also use the turn signal in the left lane and sometimes it works. Seems to have no effect on billy bobs cruising 5 over in their jacked up pickups on I10 though.

I deal with it all the time ....Usually some kid still wet behind the ears in a lowered Honda Civic with one of those big silly exhaust canisters sticking out the back of the car. I don't know why they think they sound good ?? I don't even have to look when I am driving I just hear that funny sound of a thousand bee's chasing my car and a second later a lowered pee shooter fly's by >>> The latest around here now are hillbillies in pick up's who think they have something special with those silly exhausts .... I don't care how nice your pick up is a pick up is and will always be just a work truck nothing more ....There I said it !!

A kid in what appeared to be a home-wrench-modded S2000 tried to roll up to me (in effort to assert dominance, I assume). He got up next to me and then slammed the throttle. Apparently, this was a little too much for his coffee can exhaust because as he began to pull past me, it decided to peace out and fly off the rear of his car and bounce down the highway behind him.

Not sure if he noticed, but I sure had a good laugh at it.

I had this happen plenty in my BMW 550, was a total sleeper so angered many a Billy Bob in their lifted Chrysler trucks.

In the 911 of both gens, I find more than anything it's the fools in the Corolla "SE" or something comparable that are d!cks at lights or not letting you over, etc. Depending on my mood I do/don't let it go, it's just how I drive and of course depending on traffic conditions. I usually don't care unless they do something like try and merge over at the last second when I've actually held back and reduced speed to let them over and people are just being dumb.

It is quite hilarious that everyone else assumes that because you have a 911, you want to do some rip from the stoplight every.single.damn.time you're in the car. These are going to lose sometimes 0-60 or 0-100 but I smile knowing I've never seen a Chrysler Hellcat at an HPDE event...

I actually like to see kids with modded cars trying to get me to race since they just want to hear and see it, and they know they cannot win. Some of those kids will grow up to be forum members here, and I was one of those kids and I bet many here were as well. I remember putting playing cars in bicycle spokes for a little sound - how many here did that? Unfortunately more kids these days care more about Facebook, etc. than cars.
