Exclamation 991.2 New Owner! Hindsight is a wonderful thing........

Gents,

Picking up a new to me 2017 991.2 Base 911 (PDK with PSE) this week.

I'm keen to unlock some power that was choked from the factory but before I dive in I would like to hear from some experienced owners and looking back what you feel your best mods have been and what you feel I can NOT miss out on doing!!!

5 Favorite mods you've done to kick us off....

Congratulations!

For real power I would suggest a TechArt engine module.

Expensive, but comes with a warranty and is transformational.

Added it to my 718 Cayman, and was impressed!

I occasionally chase a chipped 991.2 at the track (with my .2 RS) and the power release is impressive (I think 500hp with TechArt).

Then I would suggest H and R lowering springs....

Then a Girodisc brake upgrade

And then some aero mods which you may need with added speed.....

Then some "driver ed" time to tune the setup and a track alignment if you like!

Wow, sounds like fun!!

Tune for power and if you need more sound, get some sport cats or bipass pipes. Congrats

Looking at APR as well as Cobb right now. I remember looking at the DSC controller for my last car (GT4) and was intrigued. What has been your personal experience with it on the 991?

Thanks Koven - These are certainly on the consideration list. Did you do any more with the exhaust? I was wondering about combining these with the Sharkwerks sport exhaust and wondering if that might be a bit OTT.

1. Driving lessons
2. HPDE day
3. Driving lessons
4. HDPE weekend
5. Did I mention Driving lessons?

Seriously, mod the thing once you've clearly established you're driving the car and it's not driving you.

What everyone else said after you've done TRM's activities. The Base is so capable. Once you find out what it can do, you may have fewer mods to complete.

no plans to replace PSE, i think it sounds perfect w/ soul cats, and yes sharkwerks muffler on top would be overly aggressive i think

There is a guy local to me that drives a manual .1 base and in his run group he passes guys on track driving GT3s. Yes you can say the GT3 drivers are not good but the opposite is also true; the base driver is really making the most of his machine because he has skill.

I'm 100% for driver improvement. But, I am also for letting people drive what they want. If we were on a graduated license/car system, a large percentage of people on Rennlist probably wouldn't make it out of the Honda Fit. But no one on Rennlist is going to say, "You know, that 911 is too fast for you. Go learn to drive in a '91 Miata first". Let's be honest, any modern car is already doing some driving for you. Traction control, stability control, ABS, torque vectoring, etc. I don't know, as I've gotten older, I'm more about letting people do what makes them happy as long as it doesn't kill them or anyone else. Someone wants to put dubs and stance out their 911, not my style, but hey if it makes them happy.

Honestly, there is zero need for a Sharkwerks exhaust if you have the PSE and put the Soul Cats on. I went through the same conundrum a while back and started a thread on it. Soul Cats provided an awesome video describing how the PSE works (and why a Sharkwerks exhaust add on to it really is pointless if you decide to do the Sports Cats instead).
