Parking brake fault warning

This happened the other day. When I tried using the parking brake, the yellow triangle warning came up the message "parking brake fault and auto stop/start not available". The next day, the was no message on the dash until I tried to apply the parking brake, and then once again the warning light came on with the same message. ALSO, a few months ago when I was pulling off a hill (hill holder was engaged) I heard a rattling metallic sound coming from the rear of the car that quickly went away. I've heard this a couple of times since then. I am wondering if maybe the parking brake and the hill holder motor might be the culprit as they are somewhat related to each other. 2013 CS2 DCT. Thanks for your insight.

I've seen this also, but I think it might be related to how I'd put the car in reverse to leave my garage and reached down to release the parking brake with maybe a little tension on it, that is, I wasn't holding the brake down all the way and it didn't like it.

I had this happen once a few years ago and turned off and restarted the car and it was gone. I immediately searched the forum here. I found tons of similar stories - this happens once and then never (or very rarely ever) happens again, no actual issue with the brake or electronics. I asked at the dealer the next time I was there and they could find no faults. Tens of thousands of miles later and I've never seen it since.

Stealership called to let me know that I'll have to keep the loaner car (2020 Panamera 4) over the weekend!!! The new brake motor arrived Fri AM but the car won't be ready till Mon. Fidelity is footing the bill. I will pay the deductible of $250.00.
My policy is Platinum 3yr 36k and I paid $4442.00. This is my first claim and so far so good.

$ 500 for the motor? That's pretty insane.

Bob Z, I don't know what the *** warning has to do with the parking brake hazard warning? I never use the *** function. And yes the E-brake worked even tho the hazard light was on. Once you turned the car off and then restart the hazard would be off until you tried using the E-brake. In my case the right brake motor was slow to release causing the rattling metalic sound I heard when pulling away from a "hill holder" scenario. Alot of people don't know that the hill holder and E-brake are a small pair of brake shoes inside the hat of each rear hub. These brake shoes are activated by electric motors. This is my understanding of it all works.

*** has nothing to do with the parking brake but you mentioned that you received a warning for that as well so if both the brake and *** are working with error messages that may point to something else.
