After starting with 914 2.0, I vowed to own a 911 forever. The year and model changed ('74 S, '78 SC).
Ok, an '08 Boxster RS-60 snuck in before the I got back on track with a "12.5 991.1. It is so good that its my 911 forever again. And that's for sure if they keep PDK out of upcoming Boxster Spyders/GTSs.

I've got the same exact problem as you!

Hoping my 991.2 GTS survives years and I don't get a weird itch to upgrade to something else e.g. GT3.

I know I'm biased but I find the 991 shape fits the Targa better than the 992. that 992 butt is so big...

Lets face it, as I enter the “ok Boomer” era, I feel less and less the need to get the latest and best. For me, the 991.1 is the best balance of speed, old tech/new tech (if you call big switches old tech). I know there is a huge debate among owners/enthusiasts about which is the ultimate 911. But you know what? There is never going to be a resolution to that question. It is all in you mind. For me, If for some reason I have to replace it with another Porsche, it may be the up and coming 718 4.0 NA Boxster, or another 991 (even a 991.2 if it means native CarPlay).

Personally I find the best way not to get ''tired'' of a car is to own another car for Daily chores. I'm always excited to see my car if I don't get to drive it everyday. It's psychological, we all take things for granted when they become a habit. also that car need to be a bit boring :-)

Great article and I totally agree with the writer’s conclusion. Ever since I got my first last summer I’ve felt that I will always own a 911 from now on.

Yep. After coming home in my Jeep, walking into the garage, I always give my 911 a cat call.

That does help. Also nice to have a vehicle you don't have to worry about so much (ie where to park, in and out of parking lots, etc)

Same here. I know myself well enough that saying I'll keep my 991.2 T forever is probably not true. My eye starts to wander usually within a year or two and something comes up that I think I'd like to try. I am not at all brand focused, and I appreciate interesting cars of all types - sports cars, muscle cars, trucks, Jeeps, cool SUVs, etc - lots of interesting vehicles out there and they don't all have to be fast to be fun. That makes it hard to stay focused on only one car for very long.

I'm curious what the C8 Z06 will be, and also glance at a Challenger Hellcat manual, Camaro SS 1LE manual, or a GT350 sometimes as I think this may be the peak (maybe last) generation of V8 manual transmission muscle cars. There are some interesting trucks out there too - Raptor and 6.2 AT4 for example. We'll see, but if the right car comes along at the right price, I'll go there for a while and enjoy the experience.

To me there is nothing that special about the 991 series. I do love mine but its far from a forever car to me. I'll drive it and move on when I'm bored which is usually in 1-2 years. A tune might extend my drive time however. My eyes are already starting to wonder a bit. I drove a 992 the other day and know I'll likely own one in the future. There are cars I wish I had back like my 3.6 turbo, that was a special car I just did not know how special at the time.
