Perfect Engine for new 911T
#17
All I know is that last week, my statement to a buddy was:
“There are not really any new cars out there that interest me right now. I am happy with what is in the garage”
Now... all day today.... my mind has been considering what I need to do to get a Boxster GTS 4.0 and not give up any other cars.

While I am excited about Porsche brining back the NA engines in the 718/mid-engine cars, in listening to the initial reviews of the Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4, they sound good but not as good as the old 2016 models. I have to agree, for the T, I would keep the 3.0 twin-turbo engine. It has better torque and to be honest, it seems to be significantly underrated for horsepower. I suspect the Carrera T and the 992 base Carrera will continue to be just a little quicker and faster than the NA 718s.

Ahhh, but that sound!
They definitively stated they are not reverse engineering the 4.0 for Carreras.

But new Ts look like they are coming:

That, in spite of, the hate train here and the apparently "low sales" ... Which is BS. They sold more 991.2 run out Ts than previous end of cycle models. Porsche isn't making them to lose money. Just as they did with the significant increase in Motorsport cars this gen. And just as they are doing to bump the 718 sales with that sweet lump.
Good on them and good luck to me for resisting the new goodies!

Almost seems like a no-brainer for Porsche at this point. I was surprised to see that engine in the 718 GTS, my money would have been on a “GT4 touring”. It points toward wider applications for that engine.
I will get in now and say:
1. I still like the torque delivery on the 991T and by all accounts the sound on the new 4.0 isn’t as great as the 9A1 cars.
2. I hope I will actually keep my T, so I don’t care so much about values; I can pile on the miles worry-free
3. Will be interesting to know if the new T will be narrow body or not

It SCREAMS!
I'm on the GT4 PDK list at my local dealer, first in when they release.

would be very hard but
*more lightweight glass(not just the rear)
*lighter wheels
*Remove back seat
*less sound deadening
*less speakers
*CF drive shaft
*exhaust(easily remedied by aftermarket)
*911R 6 speed
*Battery (aftermarket)
*3.4 H6 - this is actually lighter than the 3.0tt by ? due to the elimination of turbos, IC and extra plumbing.
The 991.2 is gone now so it's a mute point and the 991.2T is pretty brilliant as it was IMO but what I described would have been an epic car that would either have been unabtanium limited release or flopped as a seller to masses who buy these new.

No way a NA engine ends up in a non GT 992. It wouldn't make sense at this point. Whereas it makes sense on the mid engine cars, hierarchy wise and how those models jive with the 911 range. Which was exactly the hint they gave about the increasing uses of the new engine. But they're masters at owning people so who knows. What I do know is, it's a 'moot' point, not a 'mute' point. Only clarifying so we don't have any unexpected firings at work. There are some real fickle grammar nuts out there. I know a girl who got fired for using the wrong your.

so... have you heard it?

on the next T they could also offer a few extra carbon fiber parts such as the roof (already offered in the S as an option) and maybe the frunk hood since they already have it in RS models but that’s about it in the lightweight list that fits into the “parts bin” of Porsche. The NA would be great but again gotta lose the 992 weight First to make me want to jump from my T.
