Installed the shifter and cables on my 991.2 T. Significant improvement over stock shifter. True short shifter and getting into 7th is no longer an issue. Very pleased.

Are cables a must or shifter is enough of an improvement?

Also had the shifter and cables on my 987.2. The difference was day and night. Looked expensive at first, but definitely worth it.

Are the cables difficult to install? The shifter install looks straight forward.

Im seeing an interesting design on an older set of numeric cables. The adjuster by the shifter is pointless as everything is threaded in the same direction, so there is no adjustment unless you remove the cables from the shifter.
Has that been changed in the most recent sets?

Wouldn't say difficult if you are decently mechanical. But definitely time consuming
