You describe a strong smell that sounds abnormal. There could be a leak that isn’t readily visible, striking a hot engine part and burning off before it reaches a visible area or the ground.
IMHO, every time I’ve strongly smelled burnt oil on an ICE, there was a source, usually it was due to a spill or a leak of long standing.
