991 Without A Sunroof

My 2019 has a sunroof. I like it a lot. The plastic panel rattled badly. I simply took two pieces of foam and placed them between the plastic interior panel and the metal sunroof. Rattle completely gone, car is solid without any rattles now.

Love the glass sunroof. Allow additional light as needed, brighten the interior. And blend in really well with my tinted rear windshield.
The best part is you could crack it open(tilt) to listen to the beautiful engine/exhaust sound without wind all over your face or messing up your hair
The only advantages of no sunroof is if you track you car - weight reduction.

I am on my third 991 with a sunroof; one glass and two steel. I have had no squeaks or rattles and have frequently enjoyed driving with them open. As another poster pointed out, an open sunroof suppresses the buffeting due to open windows.

My first 911 had a sunroof. Every year I owned that car, I opened the roof less. Same thing with my Boxster, when I went from more than 50% of driving with the top down to rarely opening it.
Your mileage may vary, but when I ordered my 991 to spec, I omitted any sunroof.

I have had sunroof in all my cars (I live in Michigan) and I don't think I would miss it in a 911. I hardly ever open mine, which is glass. I do appreciate the extra light though. Also, I love the way the 911 looks with a painted roof. I say go for it.

To me the biggest benefit of the sunroof is a functional one. With the windows rolled down the 991s have HORRIBLE buffeting in the cabin. You have to buy the (kinda tacky) winglets to put on the window triangle to lessen it. With a sunroof all you have to do is crack it. No more eardrum-shattering buffeting.

I overlooked this point, but yeah, no buffeting if you crack the sunroof. Its what I use mine for the most.

Shopped for a Porsche with sunroof. Open it even before starting my Porsche. Love to hear the sound of the exhaust/engine without opening my side-windows.
Would not buy a Carrera without sunroof.

Haven't had a leak or rattle from my 2012.5 991C2S in 8 years of ownership. After a few times when new,I find I rarely open it fully, but *always* pop the back open when driving with the windows down, That instantly overcomes the really annoying 991 wind buffeting problem. Of course, there are aftermarket fixes for that for any 991 coupe.

Many good posts. A bit surprised how many don’t have or don’t use their sunroof. Well, passed on the car in question and am now looking seriously at a Cab. Enjoyed my previous one here in Southern California. I definitely would consider a car without a sunroof though.
