Default Question about Kitty Cats

So I see Soul Performance cats seem to be quite popular. My question is does adding them create any warranty or CPO issues.

Everyone is going to have their own take based on what someone has told them at one point. My dealer has always been ok with anything from the cats back, but not including the cats. Side or center muffler would be ok in most cases. But doing headers or cats is typically a no go for engine warranty if you actually have an issue.

Yes. But in the US, any faults have to be related to the mod. CPO will require OEM parts, for the most part. I had a few mods on a car I sold/was CPO'd, but nothing that major. Good luck!

That is technically accurate but if the manufacturer denies your warranty claim you may have an expensive fight on your hands.

To run cats reliably, they really need to have an accompanying tune. Regarding the warranty, that is very much dealer dependent. Some are enthusiast and track use friendly, some are not. I would not recommend reaching out to your dealer, as that could be a potential red flag, but look at your regional PCA group and get some feedback on your local Porsche dealer on the subject..

This is the first I've heard that cats alone require a tune to run reliably. High flow cats may not spook a dealer especially if they don't set off emissions flags however, a tune will definitely be flagged by a cautious dealer.

The car will be just fine with HJS HD 200 cell cats on the 991.2 but you will need an ECU tune to make the most of the increased flow as the vehicle is still operating under factory set parameters and targets. You will notice an increase in turbo sound to a significant amount and both boost and engine response to a slight amount.

Every dealer is different. We have had installations done by Porsche, and we have had some people inform us that their dealer highly frowns upon any modifications. At the end of the day, it is Porsche and your dealer that have the say and the power to deny warranty claims that they could pinpoint on modifications - not us or anyone else regardless of their personal experience.

Good info, I would like to put the sport cats on my 991.2 (base Carrera). What king of tune, costs time etc., would you recommend, and would this entail removing the ECU or not ?

Glad to help! To my knowledge at this time all 991.2 Carrera tunes still require the ECU to be removed and unlocked so that a handheld tuning device may be use. Labor time for the Sport Cats ranges from 2-4 hours depending the experience of the installer and their ability to reinstall the heat shield bolts which can be a a pain. I will send you a PM now with some options for tunes and install in your area.

Yes - I HIGHLY recommend FVD for this. I have their tune (and headers on my 987 and 991.

The biggest difference with this is the low/mid range and the lack of dip in power around 4K when the car comes on cam. It just pulls straight through and is very noticeable. I'll qualify it a bit more for objective reality.... It's still an NA engine. I felt the difference in mine immediately and it was substantial because I know my cars. A passenger or someone that doesn't know the car would probably not notice. Also, my S Cab with this (plus plenum and BMC filter) easily pulls away from my good friend's GTS coupe(430hp with power kit). We hypothesize that above 125mph the GTS might start to have an advantage but neither of us care enough to find out since we only have access to public roads.
