Default PCM 3.1 ribbon cable connectors

Hi,

proud new (to me) 991.1 owner here.

I followed several posts here and installed my joyeauto Apple CarPlay Adapter today.
While everything was pretty straightforward, one of the connectors (the larger one) for the ribbon cables between the display and the rest of the PCM broke.
the light gray part that normally just pops out a little flew off, and now won’t hold down securely anymore.
As a result, the image on the screen is shifted to the side by about 1 inch...

Does anybody know where/how I can get a new one?

Thanks?

The connector where the pin broke off

The backside of the PCM 3.1 display where the ribbon cable connects into

Going to be tough to find the right one, but you're looking for a FPC (flat plastic connector) clip. Don't search for ribbon cable as it's actually a different thing all together.

I'm in Canada, so a website like this popped up: https://www.digikey.ca/products/en/cable-assemblies/21

I think it's going to be difficult to find the clip on it's own. Probably be sold with the connector that is soldered into the board. All you'd need to do, in theory, is find one the right length and then hope the new clip connects to the existing connector. Short of that, could glue it in place if you're super careful.

Sorry this happened! Always sucks when we break something working on our cars. I have at least 4-5 broken clips in various interior panels from ripping the interior apart

Thanks, I think this led me in the right direction.
I got everything back together and working even with the broken clip.

However, I need to unsolder the Sirius board from the FM board and put the FM board back in.

At that point I’ll try out the connectors that I ordered and will report back which one worked.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!

I just ran into the same issue. Sorry to bump an old thread. But did you get it figured out? Would love some advice or links to what connectors you got. Thanks!

Sorry I didn’t have time yet to figure it out. On my todo list but so far it works ok with just half an inch of black screen on the left..
I also need to figure out how to re-attach the radio antena. Hopefully over Xmas break…
what did you do?

Keep me posted if you don’t mind. And I’ll do the same!

Mine just happened tonight. Still kind of panicking. After hours of research I can’t seem to find anything promising. I figured those connectors would be semi common and a dime a dozen. But it’s proven to be a challenge.

Update: I was able to get the FFC cable to stay, relatively, secure with the broken connector. System and Apple Carplay works flawlessly. On another forum I was told to contact Anthony Wong with 9xx Research. Here is his info. I just emailed him a moment ago.

I haven't heard anything back from Anthony nor Joyeauto (who I attempted to reach out to directly). I purchased the kit through Auto Amateur who's also trying through his connection. I'm not holding my breath. With the amazon cable now working I'm not as pressed to find the OEM cable, but would still like it. The amazon one is etremly flimsy compared to the OEM (and Joyeauto) cables.

which connector is this? I have an extra board that I got warrantied that has them, let me know and I can try and take them off and mail it to you. The below are my iSudar boards, but its literally the same connectors as Joyeauto which I had before I put this one in (in fact I reused the joyeuato cables)

I also have a set of LVDS FFC video cables that I can give away.

Can you link me to the cables you got from amazon? I'm not sure which size/pins and length we need. Thanks.

I'm looking for the 50 pin FFC Cable. The white one with the blue "ears" in the photo. I also stupidly broke the tan plastic clips that secure them to the board as well. I was able to make it work, but if you have the cable and/or the clips I'd gladly pay you for them!!

For sure! There are two cables in there, a fat one and a skinny one.

The fat one is a 50 Pins 0.5mm Pitch 150mm FFC Type A (blue ends on the same side of the cable).
Amazon Amazon

The skinny one is a 30 Pins 0.5mm Pitch 150mm FFC Type A
Amazon Amazon

The issue with these cables is that they don't have the "ears" on the ends so they're technically a mm too narrow. I was fortune enough that it only took me two tries to line it up so that the picture showed correctly.
