Default Battery Tender

Hi all,

It will be my first year storing the 991.2 and I had a few questions about best practices with the battery tender. Fortunately, I do have the Smoker's Package, so I wanted to confirm that I could use the cigarette lighter to charge the Porsche Tequipment Charge-O-Mat? Secondly, I will be storing the car for 6 months, and wanted to know if you guys kept the battery tender plugged in at all times, or whether you just did a weekly charge for safety since you may not be around the car for prolonged periods of time. Any issues simply closing the door on the battery tender cable?

Thanks,

Tan

On my 991.1 I use the cigarette plug in the center console. It stays plugged in till March/April.

Plug it in, remove the key away from the car and then lock it. Put fuel stabilizer in and pump tires up to 50lb. Wake it up in the spring.

LOL It usually takes a poster a paragraph or two to convey all the points you made in three concise sentences.

No. It's a very low wattage and low amperage device.

The Porsche dealer sells the "official" re-branded CTEK unit for $ 229. and it works fine if you want to lay out that much for one, but you don't need to.

I use this Battery Tender Junior, just $ 25 on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8S/ref=asc_df_B000CITK8S/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198093653755&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5390493902547947804&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9008188&hvtargid=pla-370669784302&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8S/ref=asc_df_B000CITK8S/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198093653755&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5390493902547947804&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9008188&hvtargid=pla-370669784302&psc=1

Then grab this cable for $ 7.50.

Amazon Amazon

Pop your hood, pull up on the plastic panel that covers your battery, then attach that $ 7.50 fused cable link right to your battery terminals, takes less than 5 minutes. Push the SAE end of the newly attached cable through the plastic cover panel vent hole and you can hook up easily and disconnect just as easily. Shut the hood and you're all set. For $ 32,50 you are doing the same thing as the Porsche charger. Works on AGM batteries just fine. But you can pay more, too! Be sure to put a Post-It note on your steering wheel that says BATTERY CHARGED CONNECTED no matter which one you use so you don't drive off with cables attached.

This was just brought up in the 970-971 forum. The $7.50 cable shown above is really the best way to go. You have direct contact with the battery and are not relying on a lighter plug to transfer the power. Other popular but more expensive option is bring yer car down to Florida for the winter

CTek 3300, same as the Porsche branded one with the cigarette lighter conditioner is what I use, plugged into the center console with an extension cord. I keep it in there for the entire winter, November-March. I wrapped the cord that closes in the door with electrical tape but that probably isn't necessary as the door seal should have enough give to it.

My Indy shop installed a CTek adapter that stay connected to my battery & a plug comes out from the black plastic frunk. All I need to do is plug in my battery tender to that plug, super easy process.

i use it all the time when the car not in use.

Your indy shop? How much did they charge? This is one of the easiest DIY possible, takes about 5 minutes to do.

It wasn’t expensive lol

And my car was in for window chrome delete & Vorsteiner CF diffuser install so I asked them to install the battery connector for me, my work schedule is busy so I don’t mind paying a few bucks to have my mods installed.

The Porsche Tequipment / Ctek one is honestly as easy as plugging into the cigarette lighter and to the wall. Did you try that one or was yours just a more affordable alternative than spending the $100-200?

I bought a CTek battery tender for my AMG few years ago but never used it.

But I felt the need to use it on the 911. The CTeck also plug into the wall which is easy but the red & black clamp that attach to the battery had to make me remove the black plastic in the frunk to access the battery which was annoying.

I didn’t know the plug connector even existed until my shop showed me & I just told him to hook it up. Now I don’t have to remove the plastic panel anymore which I’m happy
