HRE are designer wheels. BBS are engineered wheels. Aesthetics are purely a matter of personal preference. There is a reason why Porsche OE magnesium wheels are BBS as are and have been the majority of their race wheels. For me, easy and only choice, BBS. Of course, for some, the "look" might outweigh engineering. In any event, for the lightest, BBS magnesium. P.S. No affiliation with either manufacturer.

I heard supremepower does good work and those pics confirm. I would add forgeline to the list with HRE and BBS. It's got a Motorsport following and has solid engineering. Less expensive than HRE and made in the USA.

I just found several items on the net that suggest that HRE wheels were once banned from certain racing venues due to wheel failures.

Since the wheels are custom built to order the weights will vary depending on the width and offsets chosen for the wheel. HRE P101SC's are more lightweight than the Porsche OEM wheels. We've weighed the P101's in the past and a 20"x9" average 21.4 lbs per wheel & 20"x11.5" averaged 22.4 lbs per wheel. And the P101SC's are more lightweight than the P101's.

I personally know HRE's engineering team, their head engineer Roy Epperson, & their president Alan Peltier who himself is an engineer. I could not disagree with you more about HRE being designer wheels. If you ever have a chance to attend their yearly open house please seek out a conversation with either Roy or Alan so you can understand HRE a bit better.

I also found a thread of yours from just this year where you mentioned that you were impressed by HRE after they responded to your question about being in motorsport - https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-a...in-racing.html

I was impressed by the answer such as it was but, of course, it did not truly answer the question I posed "Does anyone know how many professional racing teams [i.e., factory endurance teams not well funded amateurs] use HRE wheels for the 24 hours of Daytona, the 12 hours of Sebring or the 24 hours of LeMans?" Also, HRE did not mention when they were apparently banned from certain race venues. In short, I stand by my comment: BBS for engineering, while HRE strikes me more as the Ralph Lauren of expensive aftermarket wheels. Of course, to each his own. but as it is my life that rides on the wheels, I would choose BBS over HRE any day. Further, I do not believe that HRE makes magnesium wheels.

Correct me if I’m wrong. BBS wheel is a 8000 ton forged wheel and is molded by the press.

HRE is 4000-6000 ton forged wheel that HRE buys as a block then its CNCed to the desired shape.

Rays also makes many wheels the BBS way.
