Default A better way to get your Tire Rack tires installed

I have been a Tire Rack customer for over 20 years now, the difficult part has always been getting them mounted. Today I am using a new mobile service that is on the Tire Rack website, "Tread Connection" for new MIchelins for my BMW X4. I have to say, this is great - Mike (shown here in the photos) owns the Northern Virginia franchise and he takes delivery of the new tires from Tire Rack, then shows up the day after they arrive to install them. He has a Corgi 5000 Tire Machine from Italy in the van that can do up to 30" Diameter and 44" wide without damaging the wheel. He shows up at my office on time and does it all in the parking lot while I'm inside working. No distractions, he can focus just on my vehicle. I don't have to screw around an afternoon waiting at a tire shop, I love it. In the Wash DC area his number is 202-981-1827, and I think there are operators all over the country in major markets. This is definitely the future of no-hassle tire installation. I'll be calling him again with the 991 needs new shoes.

Cost to do all four including mounting, balance and haul away the old tires. $ 120 to do all including the stop at the office.

Now that is a great idea...cannot wait to see them expand their coverage area.

Thanks for sharing! This is great and very reasonable priced. Do you know is that a fixed price or is it based on the tire size/profile?
Also do you get to choose the type of weight for wheel balance?

Can they do centerlocks? I wonder what his coverage is like in the Northern Virginia area (i.e., how far out does he go)?

This is an awesome idea. No franchises seem to be operating in my neck of the woods, but if there were, I'd certainly be open to giving them a try.

Mike doesn't have the tool for his machine to do Centerlocks at this time, but said he buy the attachment if there is enough interest. . He told me he'd like to stay within 30 miles of their Lorton location, but will go further out, he just has to charge a bit more for travel time.

No TMPS issues, my BMW is a 2015, so I did not replace the sensors this go 'round.

Those are 20" wheels on the BMW, 40 series front and 35 series rears, I don't think the size really matters as far as the cost. They were Run Flats coming off the vehicle, and those are a PITA to dismount. No extra charge.

I didn't ask about weights, but when I went out and looked he had color-coded them to the graphite wheel, so he was paying attention to the wheel finish.

He's a nice young man, working hard to support his new business - hope you guys in the Wash DC area will help support him, he does a nice job.

Wow, that is such a good idea. I struggle with tire mounting year in and year out. My local tire shops are beyond terrible. I sometimes order a wheel and tire from tire rack just so they can mount and balance them properly, as opposed to only a tire. Doesn't look like there are any tread connections in Tri-state area yet. Hopefully soon. I love this model. Aside from the mobile component I was just thinking a high end tire wheel shop in a fixed location around here would do well. Can't think of a single OCD performance tire shop anywhere around CT, NY, etc.

That is awesome. I’m assuming he has a torque wrench?

Yes, he has a cordless impact gun that runs to 60 FT LB, then he uses a hand torque wrench to finish up to spec. Very much a pro.

I am just within 30 miles of Lorton...

I like the concept. If he starts doing centerlocks, it would be awesome!

Sounds like a business franchise name worth remembering. 👍

Just checked Maps and there is a Tread Connection here in Central FL, in Oviedo.

I’ve been using a mobile tire service for years now: https://mytireguys.com in the Boston area.

I found out about mobile tires services on this forum.

Checked, but nothing in Ohio yet. Excited to see something like this come local.
