Default Wireless CarPlay working

I picked up a Carlinkit wireless CarPlay adapter off of Amazon and to my surprise it actually worked. I have a 2019 GT3. The adapter plugs into the center console USB port and you connect to it via Bluetooth. It took 2 mins to install. Here is the link (there is a coupon for $60 off, so they are $120):

Is the point of this just so you dont have to plug your iPhone into the center console? If so that a lot of loot for what it does. You still need to plus your phone into charge regardless.

The only way you wouldn't have to is if you had a holder for your phone that had wireless charging, but that's even more money to spend vs plugging it in. I guess if you only take short trips where you don't plug your phone in to charge having wireless carplay could be appealing.

Nice find! How transparent is it? Do you just get in/out of the car and it automatically syncs, or does it still ask if you want to start CarPlay, etc?

Totally transparent. It takes a minute to boot up and then connects automatically. It’s great.

True. I rarely need to charge my phone in my car. It has a USB port as well so you use it either way. Best of both worlds. It’s 2019. I shouldn’t have to plug anything in.

Do you have to do anything special to connect it to the wifi in your car?

Great to hear this works. Curious if you’ve had any connection issues or experienced spotty music playback?

It doesn’t connect to the car WiFI. You plug it in, the PCM sees it as a iPhone and asks if you want to connect it for CarPlay the first time. You approve it. Connect your phone to the dongle via Bluetooth and you are done. When you turn on the car in the future it is all automatic.

Not thus far. Sounds just as good as if it were plugged in or if I was streaming music over Bluetooth.

It’s my understanding that with other wireless CarPlay solutions the car must have Wi-Fi in order to allow enough data bandwidth for the map apps to work. Have you tried using Waze or Google Maps?

Yes. Everything works. Spotify, etc. The device creates its own WiFi network which your phone automatically connects to. So you’ll be connected to the device via BT and WiFi automatically.
