Hey guys , hate to do this to you with an oil thread, but at least this seems less common. There are subjective descriptions that changing the gear oil in the 7MT makes for better cold weather feel. I am interested in that, but more so this car is 'new to me' so I am going through all the maintenance items (it did have a good service history, but also 10+ track day inspections with brake fluid changes after each). Just did the spark plugs and air filters at 40k. The car is a 2014 991.1 Carrera S.
Anyways looking to reinvigorate or gather more data points on the gear oil in the 991.1 7MT. Having a hard time finding a spec in my manual. I have seen a few insisting to 'only use the Porsche stuff'. I suspect that no friction modifiers are needed.
7MT is a ZF unit unlike the 6MT, standard fill bolt and drain bolt, I assume takes about 3L?
Not sure if it is worth doing before the 120,000 mile plan. The car has been and will continued to be tracked by me. I figured it would be easy to do - not seen any DIYs but I expect it is just like the 997.2 generation or any other transmission with two drain plugs and fill to spill.
I've been trying to get some information on this. I asked the dealer last time they reset my oil change light and the service guy had no idea. I printed some stuff from PIWIS, but most manual transmission info is gt3 related. I know they are different boxes, but I dunno about drain and refill, much less the differential portion of it. I have to confess I haven't removed the under tray to visually inspect it as of yet. Subscribed if you can find any solid info!
I have not physically inspected the unit either. I suspect it is a transaxle so there should be no separate differential housing. The multitude of information certainly does create the confusion. As noted by multiple forum members here, you must be specific with your dealer on what fluid you'd like since they seem to 'stock many'. GT3 folks say to use Delvac. At least one copy of the service manual I found specs the PTX for our cars. Ultimately it might not matter too much if we all went with a high quality 75w90, but in the spirit of being German about it all, there has to be a correct answer. Is PTX just a straight API GL-5 off the shelf product, or is it really a Porsche special as indicated by Mobil 1 .... who knows?
Just diff oil I believe, should two holes a fill hole and a drain hole. Fill until it starts coming out? Probably use the GT3 capacities a guideline of how much to buy.
I just did this weekend. Fluid came out a bit orange and clean otherwise. Unsure if the previous owner had something else in there. The new fluid part number 00004330549 works well so far. My car took 3 liters exactly with dribbles at the end.
I will not the fill can be difficult to reach. There is a pipe next to the fill. Since it was M8 I used a 8mm box wrench to break it free.
FWIW, I used Red Line 75W90 NS in my 2011 Cayman S 6 speed gearbox. Shifted great and no issues in the year I ran it before trading in for my current car.

I do love this stuff, I've used that on Subaru products in the past. In this case it may work on the 7MT transaxle, but they do not specifically list Porsche 000 043 305 49 on their OEM compatibility list, but lists this as the recommended oil. Unsure if friction modifiers are in the oil or not. The wonderful debate of oils. In the end this seemed like any other transmission change. Buy 4 liters and probably only use 3.

There is a drain and a fill , luckily. I made a short video with some of the footage I was able to get, also with a parts diagram. I'll copy and paste the parts here.
Porsche Gear Oil: 000 043 305 49 (I used this since I wasn't sure if a LSD additive is needed)
Drain / Fill Plugs w/ O-Ring: POR-9G132180500
Undertray torx fasteners: 9A700769800
75w90NS is the recommend application for the transaxle. I am curious if anyone has tried as well. The Porsche OEM seems fine but cold shifting performance is still rough. I am not sure if anything can magically fix that. Doing a back to back comparison could make a difference though.

I used Redline on my modified 06 turbo Cayman S with 1 qt of 75W90 N/S and 2 qt of 75W90 based on a Porsche race shop recommendations for the friction modifiers. It was getting hard to shift and the mix fixed it. If you can’t get it into first now, go to second then shift to first.

starting in 2nd gear or skipping 2nd altogether is my solution for the cold weather shifting.
