Default Front bumper: repair or replace?

A rather large rock recently jumped up and bit the bottom of my front bumper - gouged it pretty good. In addition I've always wanted to get rid of my drilled license plate holes (and use a tow hook attachment plate frame instead) and some other very minor marks and scuffs on my bumper.

What would be more cost effective - repair or replace, at this point? How much does a new 991.1 front bumper cost? I assume that gouge would require some sort of filler to make it right. How would that look/cost?

Thanks in advance...

A good shop will fix that and you will never now it was there. You are going to have to respray either way, I vote repair, but the. The plate holes bother you, so I would see see what the cost of a new bumper is.

They can fill the bumper holes while they repair the other problem as well, and have it repainted...much less than buying a primer bumper.

New bumper is roughly 2-3k prior to paint. You could get lucky and find a painted one to match.. Easily repairable but if you're going to replace, good time to pick up a sport design front.

Didn't realize a new bumper would be over $2K. Yikes. Current bumper also has PPF, so I'd also like to re-wrap whatever I get.

Sounds like a repair would be the way to go. Is Koven right? Can I get the whole bumper refurbished (sans PPF) for ~$1K??

Hot Air Welders are often used to repair Urethane bumper covers and they can also be filled. You'll never see evidence of the damaged areas when its finished, they do a nice job. I would repair and not replace.

If this happened to my car, I'd 'upgrade' to the Sport Design front bumper cover, and if the wife asked 'why', I'd say "it's a much safer bumper!".

Mgordon18, FYI, you struck a MOVING OBJECT (rock) on the roadway. This is a Comprehensive Claim (not collision) on your insurance. Should not effect your rate and should have a lower deductible. Talk to your agent and file a claim. Get it fixed/replaced the best possible way through a certified Porsche shop.

I can't imagine a repair being more than a new PORSCHE bumper, lord almighty the prices they charge for body parts these days.

I'd find a good shop; it's just labor and materials which "should" be the same if your car was a Kia or a Lambo. Maybe wear the Timex for getting the estimate though.

Kidding. I'd definitely get a repair estimate.

A new front bumper will run you around $1K not including the prep time and material to paint the bumper. The front spoiler also took a good hit and the replacement costs for a new piece is around $200. Overall you are likely looking at a price tag of approximately $2.5K - $3K for a new bumper including paint and labor. A good shop can repair your bumper for likely half the costs. If you elect to have your bumper repaired insist on having the bumper removed to avoid overspray during the painting process.

Not in Florida...depends on what state one is in regarding comp or coll claims.

And if you go with the repair route you can find Porsche-approved body shops online, or just ask your local dealer who they use.

How do any of these options impact a carfax report being generated? Will that only occur if an insurance claim is made?

It should not show up but keep detailed records/receipts so you show what happened.
