Default Are my track tires done?

[Manual 2013 C2S w/ PDCC]

This is my first year driving on the track and I must have driven 30-40 laps before I learned about adjusting tire pressures. I’ve done 7 more track days since then on these Perrelli P Zero’s. I've been targeting 35/36 PSI hot (door sticker says 36/44 cold for street).

Maybe it's time to get a tire thermometer or Michelin’s pilot sport cup 2 track connect’s to help me avoid killing my next set of tires…

My rear tires look much better...
  1. Normally the rear wear out first, right?
  2. Is it time for 4 new track tires or do I have one more day in these?
  3. Does this wear pattern look like over pressure in the front?

After my last track day I'm getting a pretty distinct steering wheel wobble. I'm assuming it's from the tread wear. So maybe just need to get them re-balanced for now?

Why would you waste money balancing a tire that has delamited and is gone? Buy a fresh set of tires more track oriented and continue on. PZeros are not a good track tire. Just cough up the money. Doing track days is expensive and you are going to use up tires and brakes. I think it is best to buy purposeful tires and pads to get the most out of your days and be safe.

P0s are junk

Cup2s. Run 36-38 and you should be fine. Get a decent tire pressure gauge. Measure and adjust immediately after the cooling lap.

Also watch for rear pads. Some of the temperatures in the tires is secondary to the PSM overactive, hitting the brakes and heating the wheel, increasing tire pressures.

OP you should be targeting 35ish PSI Hot not cold, as it seems like you are doing. FYI

Those tires are done, done, done. Pressures were WAY too high. Shoot for 32/33 or so when hot, with some sticky rubber. P zeros suck. I bought two sets. Would never buy them again.

Side note. I did the exact same thing when I was a noob at the track. A $2,000 set of bridgestones killed the same way, in two aggressive track days. I did learn a lot from it, though.

They looked cooked to me. Well done I would say. Get a fresh set before you have a more expensive mishap.

those are properly done tires!

I run MPSC2, but occasionally do MSp4s.... depends how much you track, MPSC2 are definitely better but 4s get you 85% of the way there

As an Instructor - which I have been doing since 1996 - I would not get in the right seat of a car with those tires, they are cooked and the safety of them is questionable.

You are over-driving those tires, they were not designed for that kind of punishment and are getting too much heat in them which is why they look like that. A P-Zero is a summer street tire, not really set up for hard track duty and they will basically melt, like yours have. So you need a better tire!

The right way if you are going to continue to do that many track days is buy a second set of wheels (OEM take-offs that have some curb rash are perfect) and mount track tires like a Hoosier R7 on them. Now you're really having fun....incredible grip not only for corners, but for braking, too. Put them on for track days and realize they don't work in the rain. However, if you are not going second set of wheels then Sport Cup 2's will handle the load much better than what you have now, just don't expect much mileage out of a set. Have fun!

I just moved up from the novice run group so I suspect I have more learning to do before I jump into a Hoosier R7, right? Also I don’t have a trailer or extra vehicle right now in any case.

I’m getting mpsc2’s but debating between the track connect or N1 spec versions. Any recommendations between these two?
