Most common problem is plugging into CarPlay, PCM freezes or crashes, need to unplug and replug to initiate CarPlay.

Or another one is when connected to CarPlay, app(s) on iPhone may not respond or function properly, unplug, reboot iPhone, initiate CarPlay.

Really amateur software integration issues between PCM and iPhone.

Yes, Vlad who is the owner of T-Design9 also a Porsche owner needs to get better with providing even the most basic instructions.

It's basically a 1 minute, no tool job. Insert bracket in-between PCM unit and trim. Use the supplied velvet double sided tape to tape onto the bracket if you like to make it even more snug. With or without the supplied velvet double sided tape, the mount is dead secure, it looks like it will eventually pop loose or just come undone, however it is just silly nervous sentiments. Rest assured, this mount can hold the full weight of your phone with no issues whatsoever.

The magnetic suction is on another level and this mount is so well designed, your phone literally and truly stays in the same spot and position regardless of how bumpy or how much G force you attempt to pull. Only recommendation I have is point the above HVAC vent towards the mount to cool your phone when it is charging, this aids optimum Qi wireless power transfer vs when it is heated up especially in Summer or under direct sunlight, your phone's battery has to work extra hard to get the charge transfer.

This is definitely the much more economical option, I went with the Monaco Wireless Charger instead because I am a little over circular magnets which I find still fiddle and move about ever so slightly especially on bumpy and uneven roads because well round means circular motion is evidently going to happen.

The Monaco Wireless Charger magnet is square instead, bigger and wider surface area is a no brainer, our user experience have also proven to have zero movement which is more important to me.

One minute spent less fiddling with the phone is one more minute of driving focus.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Really interesting discussion and still Porsche lags behind BMW in the electronics. I guess I'd rather they put their money into purchasing patents that improve the driving experience than the electronics.

And yes - first world problem for sure, almost slightly embarrassed to bring it up at all, right?

I use the CarPlay primarily for WAZE (along with an Escort 9500) and texting functions. I agree, without these you get pretty much the same with the Bluetooth hookup.

I like it that the phone is out of site, in the cubby. I'm not interested in cluttering (IMO) up the dash with magenetic mounts. I have a vent magnetic mount in the Spyder with the power hooked up to the footwell power outlet and it feels cluttered and works OK.

Intertesting that you tried a second phone. I think you cannot have the same phone number on two phones with two different SIM cards.

And agree 100%, just need to develop a habit of remembering it. And that being said, if I do forget it, it's a nice thing to start breaking my dependency on my phone and just being in the moment with the people in front of me - real old-school like.

The 2018 Panamera I have as a loaner reminds you to "Take your phone" when you turn the car. I loled.

I wonder if they can flash-update mine?

My RS3 says “your cell phone is still in the vehicle “ very loudly in a female serious tone if you opened the door with it plugged in. I loved it !

Agreed - the second phone is a different phone # which is why this solution isn’t great either as you have to remember to forward/unforward primary phone to the car phone.

Irritation update: Shut off the car and restart and the CarPlay goes off. Have to, while driving (not safe), try and fiddle around to get it on.

Solution? Take your phone with you every time and re-plug it in on the return.

Solution? Make CarPlay wireless.

Grrrr...
