Default AC blowing hot air

Got in my car yesterday. Temp outside was 102 degrees. Turn on the AC and its blowing hot air. Crap. Drove it right to the dealership. They said it was a broken Schrader valve and had lost freon. Fortunately, they fixed it under warranty. They also noted some corrosion around the valve. Works great now. Has anyone had this issue before? I did searches online before I took into the shop and saw issues with the change over valve but not this.

Your AC is not supposed to contain Freon.

Probably meant to say refrigerant...many still call it freon when it isn't.

Yes, same problem! It took three visits before they finally figured out that the Schrader valve (where the refrigerant goes in) was faulty. Fixed under warranty.

BTW, I posted this not necessarily to get a question asked but to put into the archive so that if someone runs into this issue in the future they can search for it. In previous AC posts it was usually the COV.

OBTW, unlike the Schrader valve on your tire/wheel where the core can be unscrewed and a new one screwed back in, this one is fixed and an entire unit must be replaced. Although mine was replaced under warranty, I noticed that the "bill" to PCNA was approx. $1.2+k!!

Interesting. Do you garage your car or leave it outside. Laguna Beach, salt air corrosion possibly?

Just found this, after the dreaded 94 degrees and no A/C. Hope it's something they might do under goodwill! Will report back

He lists his location as Oklahoma City. Pretty far from salt air.
