smart top for targa?
hey guys, Anyone install this module? any issues? I really would like to be able to close the roof when driving at slow speeds, especially when stuck in traffic in the scorching sun.

I picked up one for $300 on eBay a while back, which a guy had on his Cab before he sold it so look there first to see if you can get it for less. It is very easy to install and there are several features that can be configured such as using your key fob to open/close the top (use it all the time), control windows in conjunction with top, one touch operation via console buttons, mute the radio, etc. Just be sure to make sure you lock the connector and use some velcro to secure it all behind the panel. I did not bother with the USB cable since I have no intention of changing the settings but you have that option as well. I thought about the T9 but the first thing I do after I start the car is put it in Sport mode so it did not seem to be of value to me.

My best tools are WD40 and duct tape and zip ties in a pinch ... it tool me less than 10 minutes to install the SmartTop unit. It’s definitely easier to pre-program the unit via USB/ computer versus doing it after it’s installed using the in car buttons. The one thing about operating the unit while the car is moving is you have to be going very slowly (no more than 6 mph).

I have found that mine works to about 10-12mph, and I use it when pulling into my parking space so that by the time I back in it is closed. I remember taking a test drive of a Targa before I decided to get one and we were at a stop light and wanted to put the top up, but only then did we realize that we had to remain stationary and hold the button - I bought SmartTop unit before I even got the car!

One-touch operation is worth its weight in gold.
You won’t regret your purchase.

Yeayyyyyy I'm getting my module today!!! Can Anyone that has it installed on a targa show me a pic of how you secured it in the back? I just don't want it flying around or rattling when I fly through the twisties :-)

x2 I didn't bother securing mine as the cables seem to keep it in place. Mine has been in for months and have yet to hear any movement from back there ...

It sound like common sense but make sure the connectors are tight or you will have problems, which I base on a first-hand experience.
